I wasn't overly impressed with Strapped. A bit slow. Wouldn't recommend it.
YORKSHIRE GUY
Just watched Sex, Party and Lies.

Spanish with subtitles.

Title says it all. A few gay characters, confused youngsters.

It was ok. smile.gif

Cruising
Al Pacino movie from 1980.
About a cop that goes undercover in order to find and S & M psycho killer.
So bad that it's sort of good for a stereotype comedy effect.

That film did considerable damage to me when I was a teen.
YORKSHIRE GUY
The Houseboy.

Watchable movie about a young guy who finds out he is about to be cast aside by a sugar daddy couple.

I've watched Law of Desire this evening.

A film by my lovely Pedro Almodovar. I've seen it before, but not sure if I reviewed it on here - but I loved it. smile.gif

Actually there's gayness in nearly all of Almodóvar's movies.
YORKSHIRE GUY
Juste une question d'amour.

Excellent love story.

Juste une question d'amour.

Excellent love story.

Very good film, considering its just a tv movie thumbsup.gif
YORKSHIRE GUY
Shock to the system.

Watchable gay detective movie.

YORKSHIRE GUY
Mysterious Skin.
I enjoyed this - quite hard hitting.

YORKSHIRE GUY
Glue.

Patagonian (ooh get me) film about a coming of age couple of teenagers. It was pretty good.

Tiuri
Over the last couple of weeks I've watched:

All over the Guy
Strapped
Is it just me
You Should Meet My Son
YORKSHIRE GUY
Coffee Date. Gay themed romcom. Not a classic but I really enjoyed it.

And it's got Debbie Gibson in it. thumbsup.gif

YORKSHIRE GUY
Avril (also known as April in love)

It was ok/good. French movie.

IMDB:

Avril is a novice in a convent of "Baptistine" sisters, a monastic order which was officially dissolved by the end of the nineteenth century but that is kept alive by Mère Marie Joseph, the sadistic superior. The rule she imposes on the nuns is particularly strict but this is all Avril has ever known since she was born, for she was an abandoned child raised by the nuns with a view to making one of them. While Avril is on retreat, locked in for a fortnight in a chapel prior to taking her vows, Soeur Bernadette, a sympathetic sister, discloses a secret to her: she has a twin brother and she encourages her to go looking for him.

I wasn't too impressed, enjoyable but a bit fake, I felt. The guy wearing an Electric Youth t-shirt was a nice touch though wink.gif

Dorian Blues

* I think this was one of those movies recommended by IMDB when you watch a particular other movie. In this case I'm glad, because it's very good. It doesn't hurt that the lead, Michael McMillian, is cute, but he's a good and funny actor too. Most of the actors did a great job and for once, the script of a gay-themed movie didn't suck (pardon the pun). It mixed coming out with coming of age and did a great job. The overall tone wasn't camp or corny, it had some funny moments and some dramatic ones. I especially liked the relationship of the two brothers. Recommended!!! *
Kev
I really liked Dorian Blues.
YORKSHIRE GUY
I've just watched, and enjoyed this.
And Antione de Caunes is hot.

Kev
Nice!

I've finally bought From Beginning To End and thought it was good. Strangely the guy I didn't think was hot was the one I found really hot. The nude scenes (not really sex scenes except maybe once) were really erotic.

I also bought Boys on Film 6: Pacific Rim a couple of weeks ago. Only watched half of the films but found them all really disappointing so far.

I've seen Franswa Sharl (which was quite funny); Drowning; Teddy and My Last Ten Hours With You.

Shock to the system.

Watchable gay detective movie.

There's a few others in the series as well thumbsup.gif

I watched:

Donne-moi la main aka Give Me Your Hand

and was bored out of my mind. The director was trying way too hard it make it an arty movie. He should've paid more attention to the storyline...

I quite liked Give Me Your Hand. Maybe it was just because I thought the twins were hot (although I actually preferred one over the other).

See, I didn't particularly like the twins, but I doubt it would have made a difference.

I watched:

The Truth about Alex

* A made for tv coming-out movie with some good elements and performances. It reflects the time in which is was made and some of the events would no longer happen these days, I hope. There has been progress. I did feel the movie left some things unresolved and open-ended, and you all know how much I hate that. Scott Baio was not bad actually *

I don't actually recommend the following movie smile.gif

Curious

* a straight-to-video (pardon the pun) release whose description reads as a coming-out story. It's rather more like soft-porn. Don't read on if you don't want to spoil the storyline (haha) but in which world, mr screenwriter does a guy break up with his girlfriend, goes to a gay nightclub (which looks more like a seedy bar) that has some sort of sm bar on the top floor, takes poppers, gets 'seduced' in a toilet cubicle, takes more poppers and gets 'seduced' by another guy on a couch and still expect some sort of happy ending rolleyes.gif *

Trevor

* This almost coming-out story is amazingly funny and sweet *

True Love

* A collection of seven gay stories ranging from very short to short. The cover says "stunning, revelatory and moving", I would say it's more "poignant, unhappy and sad". The acting is not bad and some of the stories are realistic even, they just don't paint a very happy picture of the search for true love *

Gone, But Not Forgotten

Not bad though the limited budget shows. At first I thought it seemed to suggest that amnesia could 'turn you gay' but fortunately, that was not the case. The performances by the actors are more than OK, the storyline is a little iffy but does raise some interesting questions. Overall, an enjoyable movie for a rainy day.
YORKSHIRE GUY
Just watched this.

Robert De Niro playing an ex-cop who had suffered a stroke, befriends a drag queen played by Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Took a bit of getting into, but watchable.

YORKSHIRE GUY
And then I watched this.
It does what it says on the tin.

Tiuri
I watched

Socket, a weird, sci-fi thriller/horror movie in which the fact that the leads are gay is not their defining aspect.

Finding Mr Wright

* A sweet gay comedy starring the excellent and lovely Matthew Montgomery (I've watched quite a few movies starring him and he's adorable). Even though most of these gay-interest movies look cheap, as does this one, the acting can be quite good. The cast does a good job and the storyline, while a bit far-fetched, is still realistic enough to make watching this enjoyable *

A Lower Power

Official site

* A sort of coming-of-age story, but with sub-standard acting and a script that doesn't seem to go anywhere. The lead looks about 28 but his character has just finished high school, so he's looks about 10 years too old. Making him use a skateboard does not make him look younger, neither does including a scene in which someone else claims he looks so young. There are a few good scenes and the parents in the movie are quite entertaining, but overall I don't think it's very good. *
angelfan
If you like Matthew Montgomery you should check out role/play in which he co-stars with his real life partner. There's quite a lot of nudity from both of them.

It was already next on my list thumbsup.gif but thanks for the recommendation, so I've just watched it

Role/Play

QUOTE
ROLE/PLAY from Guest House Films, directed by Rob Williams, starring Steve Callahan, Matthew Montgomery, David Pevsner, Brian Nolan, Matthew Stephen Herrick and Jim J. Bullock.

When hunky soap opera star Graham Windsor (Steve Callahan; East Side Story, Make the Yuletide Gay, Nine Lives) is outed as the result of a gay sex tape scandal, he seeks refuge at an exclusive Palm Springs resort. But quiet anonymity eludes him when handsome marriage-equality activist Trey Reed (Matthew Montgomery; Redwoods, Back Soon, Pornography: A Thriller) checks in to escape the fallout from his own bitter divorce. As an undeniable passion begins to sizzle between Graham and Trey, they force each other to confront their professional downfalls -- and the firestorm each has created in the gay press.

* I thought this was very good. Small cast, intimate scenery and many scenes of two men talking (and quite a few of them having sex). It's very much an actors' movie with a good script, interesting dialogue and solid performances. The character development is a bit fast (ok, very fast) and some of the script developments feel slightly off, but it's a movie. The actors have good on-screen chemistry (and if Angelfan is correct, they're real-life partners as well) and I've developed a bit of a crush on Matthew Montgomery *

I need to know if anyone buys gay movies purely for shallow reasons. I bought the first two movies in a series of gay movies but after reading a bad review of the third movie I decided not to buy it. Then I saw a trailer for the fourth movie and there was a really hot guy in it playing one of the leads (and some hot guys in supporting roles). I didn't realise this same guy was also in the third movie so I've been contemplating buying the third and fourth movies just for this hot guy. A fifth movie is also in the works. I also like a bit of nudity in my gay films and these seem to have some. Would you or wouldn't you?
YORKSHIRE GUY
Angel.
Surely it's up to you.
I'd buy a movie because of a ft guy if I wanted to. smile.gif

Well I've just ordered part 3 and 4.
Astron
Added "I love you Philip Morris" and "The kids are alright" to my gay dvd collection ( wink.gif ) the other day (3£ at HMV).
Watched the former and absolutely loved it, hope the lezza flick can keep up. smile.gif
YORKSHIRE GUY
Just watched this. Wouldn't rave about it but it was good.

Astron
For a horror flick it wasn't bad.
It's strength is it's likable character imo, you care when they die. upset.gif
angelfan
I wasn't greatly impressed with Hellbent.
angelfan
Typically part 4 has been delivered before part 3 (ordered from different sites). Hopefully I'll get part 3 by Saturday so I can watch it on Saturday night.
angelfan
Well I didn't think Eating Out: All You Can Eat was too bad. Chris Salvatore is absolutely gorgeous. There were a few moments that made me laugh

I wasn't sure if Chris Salvatore's frontal was real or not but the stripper guy's frontal looked like a prosthetic (but he had a great body and ass).

Tonight (Saturday night) I'm going to watch Eating Out: Drama Camp.
angelfan
A bit disappointed in Drama Camp. Not very funny, Chris only got shirtless and after all the characters went through in the last movie to get together this one seemed to undo it all. I'll probably still buy Open Weekend when it comes out just to see what happens next.
YORKSHIRE GUY
Just watched this.

It was okayish. Felt like 100 trailers shown afterwards. smile.gif

YORKSHIRE GUY
Just watched this. Flesh.

Hmm, thats a bit harsh. I think its quite an effective, albeit highly stylised, little film - especially when viewed alongside the rest of the trilogy that Morrissey and Dallesandro made.
