He was Deputy Lord Leiutenant of the Isle of Wight where he lived.
Yet he used to work behind the bar at folk festivals.
Such is the life of a jobbing actor I guess?

I loved him as Onslow, too. I'm too young to know him from his Coronation Street days, but I did see him in the odd episode of Heartbeat and he was always fun to watch. RIP.

A talented actor.
You only need to look at clips from the 'dream team' of Stan, Hilda and Eddie to see how poor Coronation Street has become. In its heyday, these characters could easily have sustained their own sitcom.

I love the end credits, 04:25, I truly believe this was unscripted, Onslo and Hyacinth were having a real laff.

The fact that he had so many roles that he will be remembered for is a testament to his ability. Particularly as he got many in the days before there were so many TV channels: less jobs going around for actors.
