Has anyone been watching Smash? Surprised there isn't already a thread for it! Amazing! Blows Glee out of the water in my opinion!
MOOO
I've been watching it.

Really enjoying it.

Its a completley different show to Glee, the only similarilty being the singing.

Yeah I'm watching it. MOO is right, I don't really think you can compare the shows. Smash is getting more interesting now the back stabbing and bitchiness has started.

We just watched the season finale and though we thought the show had it's ups and downs that last episode was great!
MOOO
How many episodes are there in season 1?
Jonnycondom
15, I think.

I love it! Been going off Glee for a while now so I'm glad I've got Smash to watch instead.

Great cast but I fear the storylines are gonna run dry. Predictable but pleasant enough viewing. Once they take Marylin to broadway and it becomes a success how can they continue Smash. Unless they focus on a new show next season and replace the two lead girls with new ones. I always thought Karen would be snatched up by a rival production, although so far it's just Derek stirring things between the main star and the ensemble girl, hopefully that will heat up a bit more. 15eps is a weird number, shame it didn't get a full season order.

I'm begining to hate Ivy. Proper bitch and the director is bloody annoying.

Also what the hell is up with Toms PA guy? He seems to be interfering waaaay too much and is playing the gay thing when he is supposidly ;straight'.

The process of taking a musical from workshop to stage is a long one so they have plenty of scope for storylines. The second season was comissioned after the fifth episode.

When Speilberg came up with the idea he saw the show being spun-off into a Broadway musical (Marilyn not Smash). Obviously having original songs composed by Broadway composers (Marc Shaiman and Scott Whitman from Hairspray) helps.

I think viewers tend to like things to develop quickly, how many fickle ppl will care about whether they make Marylin a success come series three. So they have their work cut out to keep the audience enticed. Probably why they made it a mid-season show to avoid the 22 ep long haul. Speilberg is the reason why this show got a second series. Had it been anyone else it probably would have been axed. I'm fed up of seeing tv shows not get a proper ending. I just hope they can generate enough interest when it returns next Jan. Otherwise they will wrap season 2 up with it fading to black and then fast forwarding five years to Angelica Huston sat watching it on broadway in her own private box, lol.

As much as I love Katherine Mcphee I could never see her as Marylin, they started the series by setting her up as the main character, I felt they tried to fool the viewers into thinking Karen would get the part. But Megan Hilty just seemed more obvious in the role. Now I'm just awaiting the downfall of Ivy so that Karen can step in to Marylin shoes, which is what Derek would have us believe. Her character outside of the work shop is non existence at this stage (ep 5) apart from her scenes with Derek. Karen has more focus and storyline, however I still think this is just the writers way of making viewers think that Ivy won't continue as Marylin. Wasn't the rival production Mary Poppins, which would be more fitting for Karen, I just feel this is the road they should be heading down. Putting both of them as main stars in rival productions.
