This film has been recommended to me, has anyone seen it?
All opinions welcomed.

Yes, I've seen it and thought it was very good. Gabourey Sidibe was perfectly cast and did well (they all did, really, except I found Paula Patton a bit wet) and I like the way the film tells its story so bluntly and honestly.
And I honest to God didn't recognise Mariah Carey in her first scene - she's almost unrecognisable!
The scene that really got to me was when Precious looked in the mirror and saw a thin, blonde, white girl as her own reflection. It was so sad!
Mariah Carey's in it? Weird.
Thanks for response, planning on watching it over next few days.

Mariah played a very plain looking woman and was quite acclaimed for it.

I think a lot of Mariah's acclaim for this role stemmed from the fact that it was being compared to Glitter, where the only way she could go was up. As a result I think her performance was overrated. It's not a bad performance by any means, but I don't think she brought anything significant to the role that another actress couldn't.
This is made even more apparent by the fact that Gabrielle and Monique deliver fantastic performances that you can't imagine anyone else bettering. Monique totally deserved that Oscar.

Anyone who has a go at Mariah Carey for her acting in Glitter needs to watch Tennessee or WiseGirls because she is excellent in both, brilliant, brilliant acting.

I haven't seen Glitter but I have seen Tennessee and Wise Girls. Her accent in the latter was faultless; she didn't slip up once. And in Tennessee she owned every scene she was in - she plays gritty really well which really surprised me.
