Now its out.. it seems very underwhelming. Yeah.. the screen is supposed to be amazing, but apart from that.. I could get an iPad 2 for probably £100 less.

Tend to agree with you that it's underwhelming. I have an iPad 1 and was considering upgrading mainly due to my current one constantly crashing - this is a software issue and if iOS 5.1 fixes it (so far so good) then I can't really see the point in upgrading.
Pricing for the new one is good though at £399 (£329 for iPad 2).

The new screen is worth the upgrade for me. Text is gonna look amazing on this. Much better for the eyes. The speed boost will be good too.
I'd wait to compare the two screens before you make any decisions. I bet you'll find that the retina display would be worth the extra £100.

One 'expert' put it like this:
If you don't have an iPad but want one then get the 'new iPad'. If you have an iPad2 but don't use it more than 10 hours a week then it isn't worth upgrading to. If you have an iPad1 then it is worth you upgrading for the speed and screen. If you've got the money then get an 11" MacBook Air instead.

Seems about right, though I'd disagree with the last line.

It runs hot, and doesn't charge properly.
If Steve were alive today, he'd just say that customers were "holding it wrong"

True - far too true...
At which point I would take great pleasure in pointing out the lack of such a detail in the instruction manual and then the NZ Consumer Guarantees Act...

An alternative use for the iPad: (In case you don't understand German the title of the video "Nie an Eltern verschenken" means: Never give as a gift to parents.)

^^^ Now it's showing up as "private". Too bad. What happens is that the old guy uses the iPad as a cutting board, then rinses it off at the sink and then puts it in the dishwasher while the woman gives him a very perplexed look. Apparently he got it as a gift and didn't know what it was for. It's very funny.
