Thanks for alerting us regardless. smile.gif

So it might not have been hacked but it's in huge trouble and it's looking like GAME may be on its last legs.

QUOTE
UK shop GAME appears to be in trouble after doubt was cast on its ability to buy new games.
Eurogamer has heard from multiple UK industry sources that the specialist video game retailer has lost credit insurance with a number of agencies.
This means that publishers are now forced to take the risk on games that do not sell - something they do not wish to do.
GAME is now being asked to pay for new stock with cash. If GAME doesn't have the cash, it could result in the shop being unable to stock new games.
Eurogamer was told by one UK publishing source: "The trouble they [GAME] are in is with all publishers and not just a select few and it's not a case of publishers not supplying them with stock, without insurance they would have to pay for stock up front which is proving difficult for them."
This week sees the launch of Final Fantasy 13-2, SoulCalibur 5, NeverDead and Metal Gear Solid HD Collection. Eurogamer understands GAME will stock these games on Friday.

Updates

QUOTE

UPDATE 3: GAME removed Metal Gear Solid HD Collection from its website "as we reached out [sic] pre-order allocation," the shop said. "Your order is safe and should be shipped today."
UPDATE 2: Eurogamer has this morning talked with GAME about its current credit insurance and stock difficulties.
A GAME spokesperson guaranteed the launch of Sony portable console Vita in its shops.
"The games coming out this weekend, Final Fantasy, SoulCalibur 5 and Metal Gear Solid, are moving through our system as we speak," we were told. "They're all booked in for launch on Friday in our stores and that's exactly what we'll be doing.
"In terms of things further out like Vita, as you'd expect we're working closely with our industry partners and have got big plans for those launches."
On Vita specifically: "There are pre-order campaigns in store. We're very excited about it. Yes [we can guarantee Vita will launch in GAME]. We have big launch plans for Vita."
On the loss of credit insurance with agencies, GAME said: "You work with each supplier to come up with an answer and that's what we're doing."
GAME is investigating the removal of Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection from its website and reports that pre-orders for Mass Effect 3 are being turned away.
Konami, which publishes Metal Gear and NeverDead, declined to comment when contacted by Eurogamer.
UPDATE 1:Eurogamer readers have reported that GAME is not selling Metal Gear Solid HD on its website, and that the shop has been turning away Mass Effect 3 pre-orders.
Metal Gear Solid HD Collection is currently not listed on GAME's website.

I'm VERY worried about pre-ordering Mass 3 with them now. However, I am going to go to the Oxford St store this weekend and ask in store and see what they say. The staff are usually shit mind.
ic1male
Good. I hope they go to the wall. Not bought anything from them for a long time since they sold me 2nd hand copies of several games which were supposed to be new.
mikes
I WANT MY LIMITED EDITION AND I'M USING MY £17 GAME POINTS TO TAKE A BIT OFF THOUGH.

If anybody has Game vouchers or points cards I'd advise you to spend them by the weekend.

I would love to say how strange it is this is happening because of how popular gaming is nowadays, but then I remember how stupidly expensive Game is and it all makes sense.

mkdfan
This is a shame, I always liked buying from GAME. They've always been reliable.

I dunno what's going on now, I do know that I have ME3 Collector's Edition and SSX Limited Edition preordered and about a fiver in points. Should I cancel?

What about Gamestation? I'm pretty sure they are exactly the same site as GAME but with a different name. So should I order there instead?
ladsnet
Apparently Gamestation is better performing so that when.. ahem, I mean IF of course.. the axe falls, Gamestation is more likely to be sold off as a going concern.

I remember when GAME first started, they had a store in Manchester Arndale that was AMAZING. Apart from PC and video games they had board games, role playing games.. in fact all types of games. The shop had a great atmosphere with staff that really cared about the product.

Now they're pretty awful.
10% of the shop is overpriced new games. The rest is overpriced second hand games.
"Do you need any help today???"
Yes. I'm trying to find something reasonably priced please.
mkdfan
Did the GAME in the Arndale take over Electronics Boutique next to some escalators?
I think I remember it. It definitely was better then.

I'm gonna see what happens in the next month. My FF13-2 order has gone fine but if I miss out on ME3s Collector's Edition imma kick a cat!
mikes
I will know more at the weekend re: Mass 3 stuff, so will post what they say.

As long as Gamestation will be fine I don't care much.
I never really liked GAME because as people said it's too expensive and their staff are usually morons.
Then again if worst comes to worst, who would buy Gamestation?
Would they allow it to keep it's own identity like GAME did or would they turn it into their own?
I don't like to think about it. ph34r.gif

The whole gaming world is in trouble from the sound of it. THQ seem like they're about to go bust.
Astron
I blame M$. They pulled the gaming industry to the west, it all went downhill from there.

Game has always been far too expensive.

*KLAXON OF IGNORANCE*

You should really blame....

Digital downloads and the price of games, the economy plays a part too or are you just going to ignore that?

Additionally, EA, Ubisoft, Rare, Activision, Blizzard... All Western developers - development has never been wholly Japan-centric. There's plenty of British and EU developers out there.

In fact one of the first home consoles, the ZX spectrum, was British.

It's only in the 80s / 90s during the SEGA vs Nintendo, and later vs Sony years that development became more Japanese. If only because they went to their native markets first. Add to that the rise in consumer electronics demand in the West - which could be bought cheaply from Asia due to trade agreements....etc etc Japan had a prosperous 80s with an economic boom too, so investment was made, further, in software and electronics, so of course Japan lead the field in this time... The fact then, that, as Western economies grew, and media entertainment demand expended, so did the western investment in this.. etc etc blah blah... point is.... You can't blame MS for everything dear.

I was in Game this evening; it had been a while...

What a poor excuse for a shop these days. Very limited selection actually there (i.e. wide areas of shelf carrying multiple copies of the same game), wide areas for "2 for £10" of old games (Theme Hospital anyone?". Rude staff who don't know anything about anything.

Game got greedy and ate EB, Gamestation etc. and basically did a Dixons (took over the High Street, competed with themselves and destroyed their own market). They deserve to go to the wall. Good riddance.

In other intriguing news, HMV don't stock *any* PC games at all. Guess there's no market........ More wall-fodder me thinks.

Yeah and I think THQ made a deal with Game to keep their PC games off Steam and sell them retail only for a few months. Serves them right, too.

Yeah there were 3 (!) GAME stores in our highstreet plus one Gamestation store.
One of the GAME stores closed down now but there are still two within a couple of 100 metres walk distance between them, crazy. loon.gif
That's not including the one in the Debenhams centre just next to the highstreet....

Okay cool, I'mma preorder mass 3 tomorrow then. Hurrah.

I find Gamestation staff to be rude also I must add. Game staff are rude and clueless, but Gamestation staff are just as rude and just look down their nose when I probably know more about the industry they serve than they do but just because I have style that isn't an XXL Halo tee then they think I'm just a "guest" in their realm. Cunts.

The main problem with Gamestation is the shop stinks of piss.

Be nice!

i am a senior member of the team at the GAME i work at, and i am nothing but nice and helpful.
Alot of GAME staff get a bad rep for no reason, people dont realise the hard work that we have to go through backstage aswell as dealing with rude customers all day

I've worked in retail, so I appreciate retail staff and I am always polite and patient, but, when I go to the counter and say "I would like to pre-order Zelda, Skyward Sword special edition please" and the girl takes 10 minutes to look through the book, points to Spyro: Skylanders and then when I say "no ¬_¬" then she has to call her manager to find it for her, is just not on. It wasn't as if I was even asking for a bloody nice title either! lol_2.gif

None of the staff are ever that trained really. One of the guys who served me once was great, I was chatting to him for a minute or two, and he was obviously interested in games etc but some of the staff just don't care... I know plenty of cool girl gamers, so this is not a gender issue, it's a training issue. (This relates to the Oxford st "flagship" store FYI)

Also, Astron, don't be a sexist pig, yeah? I know girl gamers who will out Final Fantasy JRPG you in the blink of an eye.
Jonnycondom
Personally I've never had any problems with the staff in either of the two stores. In fact, when I bought Castlevania the other day the guy was talking to me for ages about the 2d Castlevania games, I couldn't shut him up!

Us North Easterners are just so darn nice cool.gif

Geordie shore begs me to differ.

First of all. Yeah right.
Secondly I'm not sexist at all. GAME is.
There is no denying that GAME hires 16 year old busty babes for the looks alone and that's annoying. That situation you described with Zelda? Been there many times too.
My local Gamestation store has a girl working there and she seems to know her stuff, though she's more on the alternative side and not blonde so wouldn't get hired by GAME.
craigle
Oxford street has always had a problem as its such a high turnover of staff, and training probally isnt up to standard. Xmas temps etc

smaller branches have full training, and a passion for gaming (like myself)
Uninvited
The staff in the Shepherd's Bush Westfield GAME I've always found to be knowledgeable, chatty and polite, but my local (Ealing) has a fair few members who either a) don't know games or cool.gif know less about GAME's policies than I do. I have been served by younger girls before who have shocked me with their Soul Calibur knowledge for instance. Most of the blokes know FIFA and Pro Evo and that's all..
