Looks like San Andreas all over again. Though hopefully with less gang-banger crap. I just couldn't get into that game - couldn't relate to the main character and his desire to 'tag' things at all.

The Graphics are phenomenal. I didn't mind San Andreas so much but it was a bit too big, I prefer it when it's one City to explore not a whole state. Nothing will ever beat Vice City though. Still haven't played the 4th one yet.

San Andreas was a fucking turd.
Try going somewhere new Rockstar.

I never actually played San Andreas so I can't really comment, but it looks fucking beautiful on that trailer.
but it is a shame they never went somewhere new like London or Hong Kong etc

Nov 2 2011, 23:10
There was a top down GTA:London way back when.
It's stupid that they don't try somewhere new. San Andreas was just dull, bland and uninspiring.

I might go back and retry San Andreas.
Everyone says it was better than IV but I couldn't get into it. Like above, all the tagging and going back to defend your turf really got on my tits. It seemed like everytime I was starting to enjoy it.. I got called back to defend my patch. Again.
Thought IV was awesome. Not done the "Episodes From" yet though.

Are ya all mad? San Andreas was amazing. The scale of it was awesome! Steeling a Fighter Jet and zooming around the whole map..... before jumping out and gliding around looking at the views...
Not to mention the excitement surrounding Area 51 69.
I cannot wait and I hope the scale is just as big as the original San Andreas (if not bigger!).

I think if you're proper into this gangsta/hip hop stuff SA must have been a revelation cause as always it brings that theme to life like no other game. I didn't mind it, it was fun but I preferred the first two GTA 3's.
One should not forget though that SA is one of the most sold games of all times so it's natural for Rockstar to return there.

Sales shmales... If it's got the Grand Theft Auto moniker on a home console, people will buy it.
It could be set in Tehran and they would buy it but they wouldn't "get" it...

It's set in Los Santos and is supposed to be very political (the whole rich poor thing), dunno if that brightens your mood.

Yea, Los Santos was where you started in San Andreas. I did see reference to home foreclosure in the trailer so it'll be culturally relevant at least.. I dunno, I'll have to wait until more info is released before I get hype

I knew this.. They always have some satirical elements buried under the prostitute murder so it was obvious this would be the path with how much politics has revolved around austerity and the financial world in the last 5 years.
Astron
Nov 5 2011, 08:41
What's it with the prostitute murder? Everyone always goes on about it. Is that what people do when they play the games? I never felt the need to just senselessly kill people. Okay maybe when a person ran in front of my car I turned around and killed him for good just cause he is an idiot but that's as far as I went...well sometimes I tested out my new bet too but usually on men. Leave the hookers alone!

I'm sorry.. but just like in real life, you have to think "why pay for a hooker when you can get out of your car after the deed is done, club her(/him) to death with a baseball bat and then get your cash back".

Uhhh controversial.
I actually find it funny if you think back at how outraged people where about the whole hot coffee thing in SA, which wasn't even part of the actual game and with this generation sex in video games is almost a given. Weird.

Nov 6 2011, 21:54
It's just totally silly really ain't it - because 'hot coffee' was interactive, it was somehow all the more terrible. Heaven forbid if it was in the game along with a Heavy Rain style 'undress the woman by twiddling the sticks' mini game.
Well Rockstar like to be controversial - I'd say this would do it!

It really annoys me that the option for a homosexual relationship isn't there as standard, who's going to be offended by that? The straights don't have to do that if they don't wanna.
Rockstar should make the central character a gayer, that would be amazing.
Astron
Nov 7 2011, 17:40
If you liked Heavy Rain you probably gonna enjoy that one too. It's basically the same just with a different story line. I recommend it. I always wanted to play it again cause it has multiple endings and mine was a bit shit tbh.

Well they did that Gay Tony DLC that was a pretty bolt thing to do imo when their main target is young boys. As for not being offended I remember how some people made a big fuzz about the gay options in Dragon Age 2 even though that's also completely optional.

Oh god yea, Fox News had a massive issue. It was rumoured that that whole farce was the reason why Mass Effect didn't have that same option (even though the fems could have a lesbian relationship if they wanted..).
Astron
Nov 7 2011, 18:08
That was weird though but I guess that's because both games are supposed to appeal to a different market. Fantasy fans are probably more open minded than Sci/Fi fans at least in their eyes.

And I'd be able to accept that if lesbian relationships weren't on show. Blatantly they thought 'our audience is teenage boys. Teenage boys like hot lesbian action. They like hot hetero action. They don't want to see man on man action'. They're mostly right, but to not be upfront about that annoyed me. So much fear of offending the far right or the far left.. Just dive in for god sake.
I wasn't happy with the depictions of gays in GTA 4 and its spin-offs (though the supporting characters' attitudes towards said gays was refreshing) so a main character who swings any way the player may want them to would be cool.
Astron

I totally agree but Bioware did go all out with DA 1&2 so you gotta cut them a bit of slack here, they went further than any other company. Especially given that a videogame characters sexuality shouldn't matter actually.

Well yeah, that's what GTA is all about. It's based on over the top stereo type.
I think the "issue" is that GTA went as far as it could. It arrived, there is no pushing it further. You can upgrade the graphics and tweak it here and there but it will always be more or less the same, there is no re-inventing the wheel. So unless they give it a complete overhaul of gameplay and theme (e.g. putting it on some dark island with no tombs) you will always know what to expect.
That doesn't need to be a bad thing though.

Three playable characters suggest there's some degree of gameplay overhaul happening. I haven't really been following the development of this very much but does anyone know if they've confirmed the rumours that you'll be able to switch between the three protagonists at will? Also presumably three playable characters also opens the door to co-op play of some kind maybe...?
The big problem they're going to have is that GTA doesn't own open world in the way that it used to. There have been so many games at this point that have built on, tweaked and twisted the basic GTA formula that its hard to know where they can really take GTA.
Astron
May 2 2013, 05:15
I put 3 playable characters under "tweaking the formula" as (at least from the looks of it) it only changes the plot but adds nothing to the actual gameplay.
Jonnycondom
May 2 2013, 07:13
Yes you can switch between them at will Mister. It's needed to be done to complete specific missions I do believe.
