Mister R
I know I've turned a couple of people onto this already but the brilliant Happy Endings starts this Thursday on E4 at 9:30 as part of their 'new' comedy line-up. As an added bonus not only is it very funny it also features one of the best gay characters on television right now in Max.

Marvel
I was one of the couple you turned Mister R. It is brilliant, much more laugh out loud funnier than similar shows like 'Friends' and 'How I Met Your Mother' in my opinion.

A little late for E4 to start broadcasting it though, I've already seen all of Season 1. Why are UK channels so crap at picking up US shows? I can't even believe we're a season and a half behind America with True Blood!! What's the point?! That's ridiculous.
Mister R
I suspect with Happy Endings specifically UK broadcasters were waiting to see what the reaction to it was and whether it would get picked up for a second season. ABC (who air it in the US) pushed its debut very late last season which led many to believe it was going to be DOA. Thankfully it wasn't.

The second season begins three weeks in the UK and I wonder if E4 might just run season 1 right into season 2. That could give them a run of 30-something episodes in a row.

Thanks Mr R. I'm out of shows until the new season starts in the US so I downloaded the episodes today. 5 episodes in so far, loving it. smile.gif

It's amazing! We are at about episode 8 here in NZ ! Best show in ages

They are a tiny a bit too smug for my liking but it does have some actual laugh out loud lines so for what it is I quite enjoyed it.
adizzle7
I've started watching it after reading this thread. Really enjoying it so far smile.gif

Neatly sums up everything I hate about US 'comedy'! puke.gif
Mister R
You sir are wrong.

I'm almost tempted to recommend Perfect Couples which starts on E4 Thursday night at 8:30 but its not very good. I kind of enjoyed it in some weird way but it wasn't good.
Corius
Is season 2 out in the US then?
Mister R
Season two of Happy Endings starts in the US on Wednesday September 28.
Mister R
Just a reminder that this starts on E4 in about 5 minutes.
Jonnycondom
Will catch this on 4od hopefully as I was out tonight.

Just watched it, really enjoyed it thumbsup.gif

I just hope now that e4 does indeed show series 2 straight after. I bet they don't though.

Finish watching the US season 1 broadcast time ago. Bloody hell, why does the UK have to play catch up. It's like our entire television is some kind of +1 catch up service for the world. It's a joke.

Anyway I like Happy Endings, at time it can be pretty ah-mah-zing. Especially Max and Penny, both remind me of my best girl friend and I.
boogie_artist
Ooh will check this out!
memmett
I just watched this on Sky+
I thought it was hilarious - loved it.
Can't wait for more episodes smile.gif

Watching gay stuff with the 'rents is always funny as well - think we all get a bit awkward laugh.gif
boogie_artist
I have 'acquired' the first series, will let you know thoughts when watched a few.

Your illegal downloading makes me sick Boogie

just watched s1e01 on 4od. never watched friends but i imagine friends-but-with-a-gay-and-an-ethnic-person sums it up (ah... how inclusive).

harmless enough and made me smile a couple times.
Mister R
I've never seen Friends but I'll compare it to Friends anyway... Really?
Jonnycondom
I've seen 5 episodes now and I'm still really enjoying it.

The only nag I have so far is the relationship between Alex and Dave. It just seems strange that they seem to be acting like best friends considering they were supposed to get married and what she did was essentially a truly truly horrible thing. They all seem to have forgiven her quite easily. I just thought there would be some awkwardness there, especially between the two of them. It seems like they have just completely ignored the premise of the pilot.
Mister R
Probably worth mentioning that the order in which the episodes aired in the US weren't the originally intended order. There's a couple of episodes later in the run that were quite clearly designed to be episode two and three but were awkwardly shifted back by ABC to give the earlier episodes an easier more stand alone feel. I think its episodes 10 and 11 but don't quote me on that.

I'm not sure what order E4 are airing them but it appears to be the same order they aired in the US. The DVD release (for the US at least) has got the episode order as it was originally intended to be.

Watched first three eps and can't get into it.

Sorry JC, it's just not a very good show IMO.

Based on the first 2 episodes, I would say calling it "brilliant" is a bit generous.

Let's see - 6 attractive friends in their late 20s, first episode includes someone being ditched at the altar. Sounds strangely familiar...

However, I can't really knock it just on that basis. It has its funny moments and I will continue to watch it unless it gets really dire.

I wouldn't say Max is the best gay character on TV. So far, their portrayal of gay men is split completely at either end of the spectrum i.e. they are either completely "straight acting" men who just happen to be attracted to other men (despite the fact that whenever he is on screen he mostly talks about the fact he is gay or whether or not other people are gay), or OTT flamboyantly effeminate drama queens, all the while perpetuating the idea that the former is preferable.

I know they are probably trying to appeal to a predominantly straight audience but I hope they do a better job of portraying gay people as the 2 they've had so far are quite limiting. Maybe I'm being too harsh, it's only episode 2!
Jonnycondom
I think what you've said is pretty spot on SB thumbsup.gif

I've watched 8 episodes now and I'm still finding it really funny. If it helps, Max does get better and talks about his sexuality less. Well, apart from the episode when he tries coming out to his parents, and Brad tries to set him up with a colleague, but that's it laugh.gif They are still funny moments though.
memmett
I just watched the second and third episodes, I didn't quite like them as much as the pilot, but still really enjoying it.

I can't help but watch these kind of shows and really hope it's my future, y'know...hanging out with friends from uni even many years after, just hopefully minus all the drama.
spikeeboy
I seem to have developed a little Max crush.

I don't want to, but I just do!

Am I the only one who much prefers Dave?
Corius
I like dave more lol_2.gif

Max is cute as well though.

It gets way better as it goes on. With each episode I love it so much more. I adore Penny already.

When does the second series of this start in the US?

When does the second series of this start in the US?

It already has, I think it's one or two episodes in already, I've been watching anyway...
Jonnycondom
oh, well what d'ya know.
memmett
How have people been able to watch so many more episodes already?

Some nice and legal site...I assume?
Can anybody hit me up with linkage?
Jonnycondom
This is the website I use for every show I watch online..

http://watchseries.eu/

the best links to use Memm are either the Megavideo or Videobb ones, bear in mind though that those links have time limits, I think you can watch like 60 minutes or so and then you have to leave it an hour before you can carry on watching. Of course you can always just sign up to the site if you like and get premium access like I have done with videobb, heck if you ask nicely, I may even give you my login details in a pm wink.gif
Corius
Series 2 has been hilarious so far.

Particularly love the opener to episode 1 lol_2.gif

Until it was made a plot point in episode 13, I had NO idea that Alex and Jane are sisters. Was it even mentioned before??

I didn't know but I've been drifting in and out with watching it.

Pilot mentioned it and the episode where one of them teaches people to read and then the other takes over the party. I think that was season 1.

That's the episode I'm talking about. I guess I missed it in the Pilot, they don't make a big deal out of it otherwise.

I think Max is a really good character as he doesnt' conform to what we expect a character who's gay to be: he's a slob, lazy, unemployable, unfashionable, insensitive, snarky and into (watching) sports and video gaming on a couch. He could have been a straight character in a Judd Apatow type movie. Love his bromance with Dave.

Love his relationships with Dave, Brad and Penny and i like the episode when his ex-girlfriend came back.

Penny and Brad are more 'gay' than him despite the fact she's a straight woman and he's a straight man.

Also like the episode where they all like Max's new boyfriend Grant (except Dave who wants to be the 'cool' guy)

MOOO
I saw about 10mins of this about a month ago looked good so i added it to my Lovefilm list. Hope to watch it properly soon
