Just wondering if anyone watched Beaver Falls? I thought it was quite good and am looking forward to the rest of the series. I was glad Sam Robertson got to keep his Scottish accent but was suprised to see that a show about Brits in the US was a co-production between South Africa and Germany. I was expecting it to be a UK/US co-production like Torchwood.

Of course we have our hands in it too.

I didnt hate it. There were a lot of cliche moments in there, but hopefully things will improve as the series develops. I'll probably give the second episode a watch to see if it grabs me. Plus, Flynn is HOT!

After growing up on the mountain of American teen dramas It was going to take something pretty fresh to interest me. Beaver Falls only saving grace was its promising premise, a clash of the Anglo-American culture. Instead all I got was terrible jokes and cringe-worthy dialogue from the unlikeable nerds.
Having the nickname of A-rab isn't funny. Go and call the black character 'black-ie' or the gay character 'gay boy' and have them explain that to the broadcasters and general audience that it's not discriminatory, but enduring and acceptable. Good luck on that. There is a reason why white characters aren't given a nickname that is ALL about their skin colour or ethnic origin. But minorities are and told to not be bothered about it, to calm down that it's just a joke. But strange how this joke is clearly one way isn't it? so so strange, I wonder why.
It happens in Big Bang Theory too with their only non reaccuring Caucasian character, Raj. What a lazy way to write a book, tv show or film. There IS a reason why south park named it's only reaccuring black character Token.
Rant fucking over.

While I largely agree with you (especially on nicknames as moronic as A-Rab), I think in Big Bang Theory Raj is just the character's actual name. So I don't see how that's wrong.
You could argue that an ethnic character shouldn't have an foreign name per se, but a lot of people of a diferent ethnicity do in real life. Why should they give an Indian character an American sounding name?

I watched and boy could you tell is was american produced.
It was full of awful cliches and 'beautiful' americans.
Sam is the only reason I watch and will continue to watch, hoping superifcally for nakedness.
I hope it improves throughout the series.

Unilad, did you ever watch Scrubs?
The two main character (black and white) constantly call themself nicknames regarding their skincolour.
I really don't feel like this is a major issue, especially not from a show were daft humour is expected.

It was quite decent I thought, I shall watch second episode before making decision on it.

I wasn't talking about the name Raj, but his token-like use on the show. If you beeped out all the times comments were made regarding anything to do with India, his religion, skin colour or cultural norms. He'll cease to be a character on the show almost completely. Thus his ethnic origin defines him. If you did this for the other characters like Sheldon it have no effect. The days when minorities are put into simple, stereotypical, two-dimensional story arcs should be coming to an end.

Every episode in fact. I don't know why because JC and Turk had nicknames regarding their skin colour, is in anyway a justification for it?

that be like me saying there is a show where racist slurs is used, so what the heck I should 'get over it'. The saving grace for Scrubs is that Turk is a fully rounded character who if you did the Raj test earlier, the character would be in tact. His not a token in the series by any stretch of imagination.
I guess I compare this to soaps like Eastenders when Syed and Christian only issues were strictly their sex lives. While Coronation street took the next step and made a gay couple have issues that were more universal, like parenting. We are complex beings with multiple identities, I make no apology in wanting the media to
try and reflect that.
Just my opinion

I do think it has improved a little with episode 2 now we are getting to know the characters.
I don't believe the fit one though when he says he's dying. It will all come out soon enough I'm sure.

Well if the "fit one" isn't dying he's certainly picked an illness with a really difficult to pronounce name. He could've just said he had cancer (if he's pretending).

Channel 4 have announced that Beaver Falls will be recommissioned for a second series, along with Fresh Meat.

This get recomissioned and Sirens doesn't?
I'm not sure if a second series is needed.

Sirens WASN'T recommissioned?!?!?
Oh no.
And Unilad I see your point with A-Rab but I kind of disagree with The Big Bang Theory, sure they make jokes about his ethnicity, but there is also his selective mutism and the whole pseudo-homosexual relationship with Howard thing.
If they made joke with Raj regarding everything but his ethnicity it would probably be a really obvious elephant in the room, and I think the jokes they do make are handled well and don't seem forced or shoehorned in for the sake of a token asian character.

Looking at the preview for the next episode is doesn't look like we'll be seeing much (if any) of Mac.
Is it just me or do the kids seem to have taken a back seat this season? I know they're still there but most of the time they're no longer integral to the plot.
I still have an issue with Spencer's illness. It just doesn't seem to sit right knowing that at some point he's going to die (even if we don't see it onscreen).
And Hope is such a bloody bitch. Can't wait for her to get her comeuppance.

Great finale I thought
I'd love a third season, but I don't have my hopes up. I don't see or know anybody else talking about this show so I can't imagine it gets many viewers. Shame

Mac turned out to be a great character too.

Ha I dunno, I thought the whole Mac wanting to suddenly go to England was very random.
I like to think he shagged the stripper at some point.
