Nintendo will unveil a new home console at this year's E3 event, according to reports.
Multiple sources close to Game Informer have confirmed that the system will be capable of running games at HD resolutions and that Nintendo is already showing the tech to third party publishers.
"Nintendo is doing this one right," said one anonymous insider. "[It's] not a gimmick like the Wii."
IGN has since chimed in with its own intel, claiming that the console will be "significantly more powerful than the PlayStation 3" and that Nintendo intends to "recapture the hardcore market". It also added that the machine will be backwards compatible.

This is just bad bad bad journalism and fanboy nonsense.

There was nothing wrong with the Wii it was a massive success and surpassed the other two consoles by miles. Not to mention they felt the need to copy this "Gimmick" asap.
Ridiculous statement.

If it still features Wii games Nintendo will so rule once more.
The fact they didn't make the PS3 backwards compatible was the most stupid decission of all times, who ever made that one needs to be punched in the face constantly.
I'MMA GON CUT YOU UP BITCH.
But yes... Over the past few weeks there's been LOTS of rumblings about something coming...
The Wii is getting a price cut soon too.
The PS4 is probably not coming for another 5 years.. and probably won't even be called "4". Likewise with Xbox.
I think I said this in another thread / discussion with someone that the current generation of consoles is operating under a different life cycle than in the past.
Consoles have pretty much hit the ceiling as far as graphics etc is concerned under current technology / heat management / computing power... Yes, things will improve, but not until the technology can be delivered cheaply and en masse. So, additional hardware (Kinect / Move - though apparently Sony says that Motion control is gimmicky and rubbish and Microsoft doesn't have a clue what to do with Kinect - apparently) has been added and firmware updates and expanded additional apps offering a range of multi media bollocks have been added to foster longevity.
Nintendo are in an interesting position as, their tech in the Wii is old and sort of "inbetween" the old gen and current gen. They have the chance to ramp up slightly beyond the current capabilities at a cheaper price with newer tech based on current gen tech... if that makes sense.. I'm hungover.

That totally makes sense.

How ingenious!
If that really is the case. Nintendo has tons of potential to up their game while the others are stuck.

The 3DS works perfectly online thankyouverymuch.
Additionally, Microsoft and Sony have moved away from pushing the online and more towards the "living room have fun with your family" in their recent strategies.. Which Nintendo did from the beginning as well as offering FREE online gaming - Mario Kart is a BLAST online and they offer a vast library of downloadable games both new and classic.
So stick that in your router and smoke it.

OK, you win. I'm not going to play devil's advocate for the sake of it.

I'm loving all the rumours flying round.
This will be more powerful than the PS3 and Xbox... Seeing HD Zelda andeveryoneelse at that level of detail and power makes me more excited than anything ever.
My favourite rumour is the touch screen on the controller.
QUOTE
The controller itself is said to include a 6" single touch screen, d-pad, "L and R," two triggers, and "others." The functionality of the Wii's sensor bar has now been integrated into the controller, which would mean that you'd just use your controller as a sensor bar for Wiimote gameplay. It would a sport a front facing camera.
Also, because it's Nintendo we're talking about here, the cost of this controller is said to be "modest" and we shouldn't expect iPad levels of power or performance here. They call it an "iPad with buttons" for lack of a better term. 01net's source also elaborated on the hardware specs of the console itself.

Thing is for, it can go two ways for their non hard core suppliers, the move to super duper hd graphics could completely alienate them, taking away at least 60% of Nintendos current supply base for games.... or they could end up producing more sub par filler games like they currently do.
The only outfits to take advantage of this will be Nintendo and the other big boys.
Not necessarily...... Remember it's fully backwards compatible so, casual devs can continue to make Wii level games for the wider audience.

God I remember camping outside the store for my Wii when it first came out. Such a bitter disappointment which turned me away from Nintendo so badly. (Apart from the first party games and a very FEW select 3rd party games)

Also, on topic...
Rumours of the processors have been floating around... AMD Trinity being one...

They did do a COD on DS so it's not that fair fetched.
BUT IN BETTER NEWS THAT WON'T MAKE ME VOMIT:
Retro studios are also rumoured to have a dev kit and are working on a "Nintendo franchise that everyone wants to work on". Apparently.
I lie, this makes me vomit with excitement rather than disgust.

It should be interesting to see what it looks like in regards to size considering it's going to be more powerful than a PS3.
I'm kinda hoping they drop motion only games (I know they wont) One of the main reasons I don't play my Wii apart from a lack of games that interest me is lack of room.. for those reasons I wouldn't get Kinect or Move either.
ETA
Although when I played Zelda, I did master how to control the Wii with the least amount of physical movement, instead of swinging around like a fool on the Nintendo adverts

But I still like being the arm wavey fool...
