This has been in the works for a while so doesn't come as a surprise but it seems like things get more concrete now. I never got the Inbetweener, I find it just mildly funny and I totally don't get when people go on about how that is a realistic portray of young people ala Skins. I haven't seen that much of it so don't know how big the cultural differences are or how many things they have to cut for the US censors, I remember it being quite sex crazed though not sure if it's somewhat graphic. Anyway given this is another remake of a well loved show I guess MTV is in for yet another flame war. Will it translate into ratings this time though?
I love the In-Betweeners but expect the US version will be radically sanitised. I can't imagine the US censors loving the use of cock, cum, snatch, wank, et al.

Whilst I did think Inbetweeners was a good portrayal of teenagers, certainly much better than the piss poor Skins. I just never thought it was as funny as others. People would harp on about it being amazing, but I just thought it was okay and something to watch when bored. I say this based on the 2nd and 3rd series though, I did love the 1st.

I can't wait. Not because i think it will be great..or because i think it will be crap...i just like to see remade versions of things. It's like looking into some kind of alternative universe. Or something.

Why have they made Simon so hot?
Although the guy playing Simon in our version wasn't too bad either I suppose.

My memory might be playing tricks with me, but I don't remember a short fat guy in the Inbetweeners. And although it's a small pic, the Briefcase Wanker is looking pretty hot!!

Because no-one in America will watch a show with normal looking people. So you get the fat minger to make it clear that those are not popular kids and the token fittie cause how will people sympathize with them if they're not somewhat sexy?

Can someone remind me why we have to have undiluted American shows but the Americans MUST ALWAYS have their own versions of successful overseas programmes?
Oh yes, I forgot. It's either that the American

That would hardly be a challenge. Scooby Doo is as realistic a portrayal of young people as Skins.

3 of the cast: 18yo Joey Pollari (bona!) 21yo Mark Young 23yo Bubba Lewis
Anyone know who's playing which role and if the names are to be changed?
The only one I think looks obvious from the top pic is that Bubba is Will?

Nope, Bubba is playing Simon, Joey is Will and Mark is playing Neil. As far as I can see they've kept the same character names as the original.
Oh and I echo what Stevo said about American remakes and it would be interesting to hear the thoughts of any of our US members on the subject.
Not being funny but when has something good we created been sent stateside and has done well?
Both Skins and Shameless died on their arses and I expect this to do the same.
The guy who plays Neil looks gorgeous (out of character).

What do you mean, "Both Skins and Shameless died on their arses ?" US Shameless is an excellent show, and does very well for Showtime. A third series is now in production.

In fact, a spin off show featuring the three characters from Superbad would have been a lot better than this.

Again you really have to stop visiting Digital Spy.
Taken on its own merits The Inbetweeners US is fine. Its far from perfect but it has enough genuine laughs in the pilot to hold its own. Broadly its basically what remakes of this nature should be. Its taken the basic blueprint of the original version and begun to craft an American identity around that. They've made some clever changes but its still finding its feet. I think there's potentially a very good show here. It just needs time to develop.

Although given that your verdict is identical to theirs they can't be all that bad. Viewing figures would be interesting though.

I watched it. Most of the situational comedy still works but as mentioned before, it seems pointless because they do really recreate scenes from the UK original plus the actors playing Will and Simon are too good-looking to be believable (not saying the UK actors are ugly but they're more believable than the US versions). There were some funny moments, so I hope it can develop into its own show.
Oh yeah, the bleeping out of curse words is ridiculous

To provide perspective from the other side. As an American, I had never heard of The Inbetweeners until it came to MTV. So I saw the US version first and then sought out the UK version to compare.
Having said that, the US version and UK version are pretty much identical at this point. So while it's not bad, its just a complete waste of time and money. At first, I was pretty annoyed that they would be so completely unoriginal and just re-gift us an entire series, but the more I think about it, it makes sense. This isn't a show that would be successful on Showtime or HBO, due to their older demographics. And the original UK version would need to be edited to within an inch of its life on MTV (thanks, you religious, southern prudes). So it makes more sense now. With that said, I'll continue on with the UK version and give the US one a chance. If it doesn't find its own legs fast though, I'm done.

The reason many Americanized versions of UK and other countries shows don't work in the U.S. is because they are, as I like to refer to it, puritanized.
