The City’s contibution to the Conservative Party has more than doubled since David Cameron became its leader.
The latest research from the Bureau details for the first time the full extent of Square Mile donations given to the Tories. It reveals that the percentage of donations from companies and individuals connected to the financial services industry has now reached more than half.
Last year City money made up 50.8% of all Conservative Party donations, a leap from 25% five years previously, when Cameron and Osborne took over the helm.
The City has donated a total of £42.76m since 2005. Last year City money accounted for £11.4m, compared with £2.75m when Cameron took over.
Anyone surprised?

Indeed, worthy investment, after all the Unions have bankrolled Labour for years.
yeah can one compare democratic unions with private companies though?

Provided the political donations have been passed by the company shareholders, no issues occur.

Well no, at least with a company you know it's out for it's own best interests; unions hide behind the facade of working for their members allowing the power hungry megalomaniac leadership to go about serving it's own agenda incognito.
mind you when you read about wheezes like this

The unions bankroll 80% of the Labour Partys donations. Even worse the the taxpayer funded fiddle that they carry out.
According to the Bureau of Investigative Journalism, “The biggest individual City backer of the Tories is David Rowland, who has contributed £4.013m in just two years.” Anyone who has read even only the business pages of the Guardian will tell you that David Rowland is a property developer, not a City financier. His firm is not even listed on the London Stock Exchange.
Subtract Rowland from the BIJ’s own dubious numbers and all of a sudden the reality behind the headline “City Bankrolled Tory Election Campaign“ becomes less exciting, with their own self-selected top ten of remaining City donors giving the Tories a mere 9% of their funds. Even then it is the case that the individuals gave their money out of their own pockets – and not one single one of them works for a bailed out bank.
Sloppy sensationialism journalism.

It is pretty much. You'll know the shit's really starting to stink when the tories instigate a financier modernisation fund to organise kickbacks.

New donation figures released today by the Electoral Commission show that since Ed Miliband became Labour leader the Party has become even more reliant on the trade unions for funding, with almost nine of every ten pounds of donations now coming from them.
Figures for the first quarter since Ed Miliband became Labour leader (Q4 2010) show that Labour received £2,545,610.10 in donations. £2,231,741.90 or 88 per cent of these came from trade unions, a massive increase on the same quarter the previous year (Q4 2009), when 36 per cent of their funding came from the trade unions.
Labour is clearly losing the support of individuals:
The central party has received no money from private individuals. Figures covering the first quarter since Ed Miliband became Labour leader (Q4 2010) show that the central Labour Party received no donations from private individuals. Across the country, just 15 individuals donated to CLPs, totalling £39,286 (Calculations from Electoral Commission Website).
