Handheld drug dealing woot

lol_2.gif

True GTA game - sandbox gameplay, open-world environment, gritty crime narrative.
- M-rating
- Isometric camera angle
- Cel-shaded polygons w/ black borders
- good touch-screen implementation - 'tasteful' minigames, streamlining interface
- UI based on a PDA - hub for email, contacts, map, music player, GPS, stat-tracking
- stats uploaded to Rockstar Social Club website via Wi-Fi
- finger-sized icons
- missions designed for shorter periods of play, arcade quality
- aiming with control pad, auto targeting with R button
- subtle autosteer
- if you fail a mission, you can jump back to the action sequence
- chain gun, flamethrower
- good portion of Liberty City is modeled in the game (different routes than console games)
- no probems with load times, draw-in or frame rate
- lots of pedestrians, cars, etc on screen
- Wanted system - objective is to disable police cars any way possible
- real-time weather effects, 24-hour day/night cycle
- lots of radio stations to listen to (more instrumentals than vocals)
- 800,000 lines of hand-optimized source code (hey, the people like the info, right?)
- no details yet on multiplayer/Wi-Fi features

I read something the other day saying it's going to be even bigger than the PSP GTA games in terms of size and graphics...one loves it when Nintendo gets one-up on Sony...
mikes
Yeah in terms of content it's meant to be much bigger than the PSP one.. also, the game world is only slightly smaller than GTA IV.. only one "district" is left out.. I think it's the one based on New Jersey if my memory serves.. anyway, it's set to be a very big game smile.gif Which is good because i'm sick of playing games and completing them in a weekend.

Oh and, Rockstar Leeds are developing it lol_2.gif I pass the business park where they are based on my bus ride to work.

Haha, somehwat off topic, I passed the GOA offices here in Dublin the other day: their canteen is right on street level, and I could see all the nerds playing their DSs and on their iPhones and doing other such nerdy things...it was funny! (all in the good way...)
mikes
- contains more lines of code than GTA: San Andreas
- Huang Lee’s PDA acts much like the cell phone from GTA IV
- access Ammu-nation through the PDA
- Ammu-nation is now an online store that delivers weapons to your safehouse
- earn trophies that will be displayed in your safehouse
- your safehouse features a whiteboard full of contacts. Touch photos to access missions you’ve received
- view online leaderboards through whiteboard
- select weapons via PDA screen
- action pauses once you tap touch screen
- tracer lines for fire are over-exaggerated to give you a better idea of how weapons fire
- touch grenade/molotov icon to activate a toss. The icon will turn into a target circle, and you’ll drag a line in the direction you want to throw. Trajectory is displayed on the top screen
- assemble a sniper rifle via the touch screen
- safe cracking uses audio hints as you turn the dial
- slide a screwdriver into the ignition to steal cars
- flip coins into toll booths
- dig through garbage for items

More details.

This is sounding like something very special. smile.gif
ic1male
I think I will be getting a new DSlite for this. There are so many DS games I want to play!
mikes
Why not wait for the DSi???
It's apparently due here in Spring. So possibly around the time that GTA:CTW comes out.
ic1male
I don't think I can wait that long. lol_2.gif
mikes
lol_2.gif

It sounded like you were just buying one for China Town wars though..
ic1male
Nay, the likes of Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Rhythm Tengoku Gold, Cooking Mama are all calling me! lol_2.gif
mikes
lol_2.gif

Don't forget The World Ends With You... It is sublime.

OT
mikes
more details:

- your first mission has you delivering a sword
- four cities from GTA IV are represented: Broker, Dukes, Bohan and Algonquin
- cities are similar to GTA IV, but not the same
- 900,000 lines of hand-optimized code
- whistle for taxis
- some mission names are inspired by other games: Pursuit Farce, Street of Rag, ect.
- slow-motion stunt jumps
- 24 hour day/night cycle
- licensed music (instrumental)
- once you get in trouble with the cops, there is no option to evade
- helicopters can be flown in, but you cannot pilot them
- the game will make your DS talk when you re-open your DS from sleep mode. One example: “You want a piece of this pie?”
- no dating aspects
- there will be multiplayer, but no details yet
ic1male
Thank gawd there is no dating. That and the friends activity things are so boring in GTA:IV. I like the whistle for taxis bit! lol_2.gif
mikes
Well the online features friend codes, but i've read that you can swop map points with friends.

Apprently you can mark things, locations or draw a route, and send it to a friend to show them the way to a key point/cool feature.

Kinda cool.

I think I might wait for the DSi. The DSlite only supports medium level security on my wireless router (WEP, I think) so, in my view, it doesn't support networking at all as I'm not changing my router settings. I believe the DSi is better and supports WPA.

*after some googling*

Damn, it only supports WPA wireless for DSi software, not DS games. What a crock of shit.

Too true.
I got the PC GTA4 for Xmas. Loving it, but the constant pool, darts, drinking, dating bollocks is a serious pain in the arse.
I don't get why they include these?? I thought they'd have learned from San Andreas.
ic1male
Golly, you are one of the chosen who can run the PC version decently? lol_2.gif What graphics card and CPU have you got?
ladsnet
Nothing that brilliant. I get a bit of slow down if its raining hard and theres a lot going on, but nothing major.

You've got to remember, most of the whining internet GTA fanboys are complete cocks who ramp everything up to very high quality and then moan when it crawls along lol_2.gif

Multiplayer!!
Co-op!!
smile.gif
mikes
Some clarification:

- multiplayer is local system play
- online connectivity allows sharing of locations, chat features, and item-trading with friends
- stats can be uploaded to the Rockstar social site
- “special contests, events, and promotions” are coming
sscott
Just perordered this, looks good!
mikes
gameplay trailer

Looks fun!
ic1male
Only £17.99 at Play.com compared to Game where it's £24.99.
mikes
If you pre-order at GAME you get a card for the game with $10,000 for the game and access to ammu-nation early.
ic1male
Aye, I got an email about that today. I don't like doing such things. It can give you too much of an advantage and spoil the early part of the game. I never used the special Dead Space suits which were available for free either as it takes 75% of the game to earn the level 5 suit and they were giving it to you as free DLC.
mikes
From ONM

GTA Chinatown Wars: 94%
+ Enormous game map
+ Fantastic visuals
+ Classic GTA gameplay

mikes

Multiplayer details.

* Survivor Mode - Your standard deathmatch (online)

ic1male
Eurogamer gives it a soiperb 10/10!

mikes
It has 95 on meta critic - the highest rated DS game.

How cool is this:

I think Rockstar Leeds have created a handheld gem with this game.

OMG Chopstick Stylus biggrin.gif

Me Want!!
mikes
Well, GTA DS day is upon us. Alas, i've opted to buy MadWorld for now. I think GTA:CW will be pretty easy to get a hold of as they are probably producing a large batch, and will keep stock up, but i'm reckoning MadWorld will sell through it's first shipment, and see a slower replenishment - which is a shame.. but i'm just guessing lol_2.gif anyway, GTA:CW is going to be on my birthday list in June.. No rush eh.

I've seen the advert on mtv2 about 3 times in two hours.
project_bleu
Got it...really good...addictive...gotta go bye!
mikes
GRRR. I was taunted by it in GAME today, but no, I resisted and just purchased MadWorld.

Man, this is so addictive. I can't put it down. Usually with GTA games, I get bored and give up by 40% completion but this is simply marvellous. It's amazing how they've recreated most of Liberty City from GTA:IV, these cel-shaded graphics are really good. Love the variety of missions although I seem to be hooked on drug dealing. Got $250,000 in my bank at the mo.

"Ya wanna piece of my pie?" lol_2.gif

It's great isn't it!! biggrin.gif

I'm hooked on the taxi driver-ing and drug dealing ^_^ I like to chainsaw passengers if I can't get them to their destination on time that way I can still get some money off them if they have any /psychotic

mikes
Grrr. I want it. I bet it would look even more spiffing (lulz) on my DSi.

Huzzah! I finished it now. Good job it ended when it did, I began to feel the story dragging on a bit. Wasn't particularly engaging during the middle but the ending was quite fun. I can't imagine where I'm going to find the remaining 75 security cameras though. lol_2.gif I think I'll start on Grand Theft Auto IV instead and see if I can make it on to Alderney.
Finnbar
I'm finding the middle missions a bit boring too. Theres a bit too much driving around and passing fucking toll booths. They are a right pain in the arse!

Have to say I never really liked GTA games but this one is pretty sweet and swears at you if you open and close the screens while playing!
ic1male
Poor Rockstar! Such a valiant effort but the March sales figures for this game in the USA were about 80K. Whilst the shite known as Pokemon Platinum sold 800K. It seems there is indeed a stigma that DSs are for gay boys, kids and pregnant mothers. lol_2.gif

How. Very. Dare you.

Bulbasaur GO! bleh.gif

I think it's because GTA "fans" are generally graphic whores who see anything that is slightly "retro" and stylish as "stupid". Plus, piracy is so easy on the DS and pretty widespread with flash cards, so I guess if you are a "mature gamer" on DS you have one. (But again, a generalisation because I don't have one).

Another point is the advertising, because we aren't American we don't know what it was like, though I have no issues with the European advertising, but, from what i've read, the advertising isn't on the same scale in the States.

I'm probably a graphic whore GTA fan but I found this Chinatown Wars outing to be the best GTA I've played yet. lol_2.gif

Me neither and it is terribly unfortunate that this happens. On a pure gaming forum I frequent, it seems everybody is using the R4. badboy.gif

lol_2.gif that's probably because you're not a 16 year old boy and actually can see things for the merits they have.

Also, this topic has only 3 pages, the GTA4 topic has 6 pages. So, even just by this ad hoc statistic, you can see the popularity of one compared to the other.

lol_2.gif Look at me going on and I don't even bloody have GTA:CW yet (i'm skint) Getting it for my birthday though I think, and, I want to finish the other games i'm playing first lol_2.gif
ic1male
lol_2.gif I'm totally skint, too. I have declared a moratorium on new game purchases. I literally have stacks of games on Steam (PC) that I haven't even touched yet.
project_bleu
Urm...have I completed the game??

SPOILERS

[ You find out his Uncle killed his Dad and then you have to kill him? ]

Because I'm only 67% into the game and haven't received an e-mail in yonks.
ic1male
lol_2.gif You should know when you complete the game - the last couple of missions are the longest and require loads more shooting than any other. I'd say you were done. I got to about 67%, too.

The rest of the % points are made up from jumps, rampages, shooting security cameras, races, etc.
