The FMF forum software offers different ways to reply to a post.

Option 1
The easiest and most commonly used is the simple reply button, this one:
FMF Image

This one is found below the bottom-most post and it is used when you simply want to reply to a post.

Option 2
The second option, also used quite frequently is the Quote Post button, this one:
FMF Image

Slightly confusingly, it's also labelled reply. It is located at the bottom of each post and it does create a reply but it does so by quoting the post in which you click this button.

A common mistake made by new members is to use this one to reply to posts in View. The reply will include the pictures from the original post and quoting pictures is not allowed. Either use the simple reply button or remove the URL(s) to the image(s) from the post you're quoting smile.gif

Option 3
The last and least frequently used option is the multi quote button, this one:
FMF Image

In a thread containing several posts that you want to quote, it is used to select those posts.
When reading through a thread, you can select multiple posts to quote. The buttons in the selected posts will change into:
FMF Image

When you've selected all the posts you want to quote, click the simple reply button
FMF Image
and the text of the posts you selected will already be inserted in your reply thumbsup.gif

Merged Replies
If you reply to your own posts within a certain, short time period, the replies will be merged with your original post.

Do you know exactly how long this "short time" is? I think it's 5 mins?

Another point to note:

There you are, you've done the longest reply in the world, you've multi quoted several people, and when you finally submit your post, it looks like junk.....

with lots of

CODE

[quote]
xo dfkhsoif ifhofh if hof
soidis f ifjidof iod fjfsio jfsfjsof
[/quote]

You go back, thinking you've made a mistake with the syntax, comb through your post, but no, it still looks like junk.

That's because IPB can only handle up to around 10 multi quotes - any more than that and it doesn't work! lol_2.gif

More fool those who feel the need to quote more than 10 different replies at once lol_2.gif

This is not limited to multi-quotes though. People often quote and quote and quote replies and after about 10 or so the software indeed no longer plays along. They'd be better of to use multi-quote and only quote those posts that they 'need' rather than simply use quote after quote smile.gif

The thing I find irritating about the script this forum runs on, is when you quote a post which is later modified, it still shows the old post prior to modification. I'm sure Inivision changed this at least 6 months ago... Or am I getting confused?

Not even the last version of the invisionboard software does this. To be honest, I don't think any forum software does this. I think it's a good thing too, replies to a post that include a quote that was subsequently changed could end up being unintelligible, because the text has been changed.

I don't like it when I say something I later regret and go to edit it out but it's been quoted sad.gif Maybe it's for the best though, as you say.

The only other qualm I have is that this board is set to show all edits. I edit a lot of my posts (mainly correcting spelling errors etc) so I think the first edit should not show, but all subsequent edits should, like on DigitalSpy.

I think a lot of people don't know how to use this feature, which is why I created this little tutorial smile.gif

A few threads lately have been rendered virtually unreadable by multi-quoting.
