A couple of times I've attempted to post a link to another web site (e.g. a news article) without success.
How do I do it?
I tried copying and pasting a link that I had included in an e-mail, but that just resulted in plain text on fmf.
Thanks.

Posting A Link.

The first thing you want to do is click on the Insert Link hot button on the bar.

FMF Image
________________________________________

Then you will get this pop-up.

FMF Image

In this pop-up, you need to post the entire address of the site you want to link... Copy and paste it. (I used Famousmales as an example... Then Click "OK"
________________________________________

After you click "ok", you will get this Pop Up.

FMF Image

What goes in here is what the link will look like when you post. For Example. I put "FMF". My post will have an underlined "FMF",and when you click on it. it will take you to "www.famousmales.com"

Click "OK"
________________________________________

Preview your reply and check if the Link *(B ) takes you where you want it to go. Your Link is contained in the "[url]" brackets *(A)

Now have fun and link some good stuff.

You said to "copy and paste it.". I copied the address in another window, but in this one didn't see an option or dropdown menu to paste it. So I just typed the whole address in. Did I miss something or is that part of the instruction not correct?

Thanks. hug.gif heart.gif

Anyone any idea why the **** website is filtered out by the board settings?

I posted an article titled "Gay sheep protests" in gossip but no matter what I tried the board kept changing the link to famousmales.

Has Phil or one of the moderators been in fisticuffs with the owners of **** & decided to exact their revenge here?

That site is run by one of Phil's many exes and this is his revenge wink.gif icecream.gif

Seriously, that site wanted to strike a deal with FMF and Phil refused. Someone then started spamming FMF with loads and loads of posts all linking to that site. We don't like spam here and this is one of the ways to fight spam.

Thank you sir - will now ensure that I find alternate news sites to use on here.

And I can only hope that Phil has a kiss and make up session with his ex's soon (photographs to be posted in View when available)

I have the same problem on FMF's sister site Duop.

What you could try is the following:
Type your post, then when you want to insert a link simply type the text you want to appear as a link. Then you select the text you want to act as a link, only then do you press the Insert Link button. a pop-up widow will appear where you can enter the URL (i.e. the actual link). Press OK. The selected text should now be replaced by a link thumbsup.gif Good luck smile.gif

The steps outlined by BongMate above were working fine for me for a while.
Lately, when I click on the Insert Link hot button on the bar I get the message:

Error! You must enter a URL You must enter a title

So I tried pasting the URL into the body of the post and highlighting it. Then, when I click on the Insert Link hot button on the bar I get the message:

You must enter a URL.

Have you recently upgraded to Internet Explorer 7 or now using Vista? If so then scripted windows are restricted. When you click on the "Insert Link" button the error box pops up - however near the top of your Explorer appears a bar that says "This website is using a scripted windows (blah blah blah) CLICK HERE TO ALLOW SCRIPTED WINDOWS".

If this is the origin of your problem clicking there should work.

I have "upgraded" to IE7 recently (if you can call it that). I couldn't find the bar that says "This website is using a scripted windows (blah blah blah) CLICK HERE TO ALLOW SCRIPTED WINDOWS", but I'll poke around some more.
IE7 is causing me all sorts of problems (including logging me off every 5-10 minutes - I use DSL, AOL Broadband) and am considering "upgrading" back to IE6.

FMF Image

Is that what you see?

If so right click where I indicate and select 'temporarily allow scripted windows".

If you click the picture insert button within Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) and FMF, with it's default settings Internet Explorer 7 pops up a yellow(ish) warning bar that says

"This website is using a scripted window to ask you for information. If you trust this website, click here to allow scripted windows..."

You then have to click it to "temporarily allow scripted windows" and then once again click the picture insert icon for the pop-up to work (asking you for the URL).

Now you have to do this EVERY SINGLE TIME you make a new post or thread because it only allows this temporarily on a single page once you enable it.

The same applies for links.

You could do this:
- Open Internet Explorer, click the Tools button, click Internet Options, and then click the Security tab.
- Click Internet, and then click the Custom level button.
- Scroll down to Allow websites to prompt for information using scripted windows, select Enable.
- Click OK until you return to Internet Explorer.

Should do the trick smile.gif and saves you having to allow it every single time
