i am trying to capture from dvds on my pc. i am playing the dvd in windows media player, going to full screen and then pressing print screen. i then go into paint and thats where my problems seem to start. i select the portion of the screen, click copy and then paste in a new page. ... seems to turn out completely black all the time.

I also tried this in photoshop but to no avail. must be a small thing i am doing wrong.

Excuse my ignorance but anyone got any tips? Thanks

I'd suggest you download PowerDVD - it's much simpler, but if you will persist...

Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > Troubleshoot > Set hardware acceleration to none.

Hmm I have a problem with powerdvd when it tries to save the pictures as a .jpeg/.jpg for some reason no other program notices that they're a correct picture format. So check your settings David. I've noticed it only works if PowerDVD saves them as .bmp files; which you can then open with paint or paint shop pro etc. and save as a jpeg for easier uploading and posting here etc. thumbsup.gif

Hope that helps.

Oh - how bizarre!
I've neevr heard of anyone having problems with VLC. Maybe it installed wrong, or you chose tyhe wrong version?

I forgot to mention imagegrabber before, which is a great little free program, but I cant find the link to download it now

I found this at download.com, and it looks good - http://www.download.com/Capturex/3000-2194...tml?tag=lst-0-1

^Never used it though

Also please remember that most capping programs will cap to 4:3 format (old shape telly)

To return the pics to their proper widescreen shape (16:9) you should do a resize using your paintshop program of 100% wide, 75% height.

Do you mean when you slow it down using the tortoise symbol, making it easier to see what you want to capture?
I just tried and captured no problem.
I'm using version 5.

Does anyone know how to get high resolution/definition captures from a dvd? Ive used PowerDVD but it only seems to capture images at 96dpi and the image appears a little fuzzy and blurred. I cant see anyway of changing the capturing dpi and photoshop isnt really helping becuase the initial capture isnt that great in the first place. If theres a simple solution Id love to hear it biggrin.gif Thanks!

Try and get hold of Intervideo's WinDVD program Capping is simply a click on the Control Panel on that. It's what I've always used.

In PowerDVD, go to Configuration > Advanced button > Snapshot tab >Select Capture to File and JPG as file format > Select a folder on your computer for the caps to be put in.

That's it. Play a DVD and pause the movie when you want to cap it. Press the Cap button (or the C button on your keyboard, I think) and an image file will be created.

I don't think this works when you use PowerDVD to play a movie file, but it works for proper DVDs thumbsup.gif
