(Sorry if Phils has already posted this one but i couldnt see it!)

Gay Youth UK
"The aims of the site, is to provide as much information, support, help and advice to all gay youth within the UK. In fact, not just gay youth, but those who may be questioning their own sexuality, or who may be bisexual."

There are some quite good advice sections that helped me thumbsup.gif

At the risk of being another spammer (perish the thought!) Gay Youth UK has changed a lot recently. So if you didn't think much of it before, try again now.

The most active part of Gay Youth UK is the forums, which I moderate on as 'Peregrine'. Its a great place to chat to other young people in your situation, if nothing else.

I also suggest the Queer Youth Alliance website, where you can get similar help and advice.

If you are at University and are lesbian, gay or bisexual the best source of help and advice is from the uni LGB group. They usually have a page on the university's website - if you are at Sheffield Uni, use the link in my sig.

Hope that helps.

EDIT:

Just realised that QYA has already been mentionned - sorry.

FFLAG: Families and Friends of Lesbians And Gays - a useful site if your parents are having difficulties accepting your sexuality.

INFORMATION FOR ALL WHO HAVE A PROBLEM OR KNOW SOMEONE WHO DOES

----------------

Working through it myself -

• You may want to think through your situation first before talking to someone, in doing so this may help you identify your concerns more clearly.

• Writing down your troubles is a great outlet without relying on someone else. Sometimes confronting your feelings can be difficult so make sure a friend or family member is around if you need them.

• Think about the options you have in your situation; write down all the possible actions and the possible positive and negative outcomes of each.

• Sometimes it can take a great deal of courage to pick up the phone or jump on the net but there are people ready to listen and to help you.

Improving your self esteem…

• Don’t get too caught up about outside beauty and remember there is an inner beauty that is deeper in you and in others.

• Try not to have negative thoughts.

• Concentrate on the things you like doing and that you are good at. Feel proud of your talents and the new skills you develop.

• Take pride in you! Your thoughts, values and beliefs, and voice them!

• Exercise! It’s a great outlet of stress and makes you feel happier and better about your self.

• Set goals that you wish to achieve. This could be on a daily basis, monthly basis or perhaps where you wish you be in one year’s time.

Some helpful quotes...

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent. Never give up”

“People spend a lifetime searching for happiness; looking for peace. They chase idle dreams, addictions, religions, even other people, hoping to fill the emptiness that plagues them. The irony is the only place they ever needed to search was within.” Ramona. L. Anderson

“Know that although in the eternal scheme of things you are small, you are also unique and irreplaceable, as are all your fellow humans everywhere in the world” Margaret Laurence

------------------------------

Helping a Friend -

Ways of helping a friend through a difficult time…

• Encourage them to talk to someone

• Distract your friend by doing something you both enjoy such as shopping, going to the beach, movies or joining in a sports game.

• Be supportive. Let your friend know you care and you are there to listen.

• Talk. Work through feelings together.

If you believe your friend is in serious danger let the appropriate authorities know.
