The Office US To End Options

Now confirmed that the American version of The Office will end its run in May 2013. Executive producer Greg Daniels has confirmed that the shows ninth season will be its final season. The shows ratings have stumbled in recent years particular after Steve Carell left the show but it remained NBC's biggest comedy series by some margin. An Office spin-off led by Rainn Wilson's Dwight is in the works and should debut early 2013.

I think it's the right time, infact, probably should have been when Steve left to be honest as the quality then was starting to seriously dip. He was a big essence of what made the show great.

I'll look back on this show fondly, particularly seasons 2 - 5. just absolutely brilliant comedy. Jim and Pam will always remain one of my favourite on screen couples too.

I watched the last episode an hour ago. Loved it. The last two seasons have been hit and miss for me but the last few episodes of this year I found very strong and a nice reminder of how much I loved these characters.

I'll try not to spoil but highlights.

. The new best man
. Phylis being uber sweet throughout and attempting to create a new Stanley.
. Dwight summing up The Office and the roles each character played in his life.
. Angela's bleeped tirade at Mose
. Pam got the last line and that felt right. And it was a good line.
. Angela being walked down the aisle
. The history of Creed.
. Kevin and Dwight

The only thing that didn't work for me was Erin's reunion, I'm not sure why it didn't and i would have liked some resolution to the Andy/Erin/Plop triangle.

A good last year all in all. I'm glad that Dwight got all he wanted and the friendship between him and Jim was a strong point of this season.

I have to say its probably one of the best series finales I've seen. Just about every character was given their 'moment' and it provided closure on the series without actually shutting down the lives of these characters. You got the distinct impression that these characters actually had a future which is always nice. It was funny and heartfelt. I really liked it.

I'll also say that I've really enjoyed this final season as a whole. Its been a noticeable improvement on the last couple of years where it really struggled to work out what it was doing and where it was going. They've been much more focused this year and its produced some brilliant things.
