Skydrive seems to be part of Windows Live Essentials and afaik it's a remote facility for storing image files . Another poster hear has a problem with Skydrive as well...this might help you

Try this ..It's what I suggested to the other poster .
Find am image on your PC .Right click it and select OPEN WITH then CHOOSE DEFAULT PROGRAMME ...a window should open with names of some programmes listed .If the one you want to use is there CLICK IT after ticking the box that says " always choose this programme etc" If your preferred programme is not there click BROWSE and look for the programme and select it ...remember to always click the box I mentioned .Next time you click an image file it should open in your preferred programme .

Thankyou for that molloy - it didn't work but I will live with skydrive for the moment - on another topic I have recently changed my email system to the new outlook.com. On the inbox page we have a column on the right hand side of the inbox page advertising various parts of outlook and I would like to get rid of this so as to make the reading column wider - however I cannot remove this right hand column - does anyone know how to do this or indeed if it is possible - thanks in advance

I will confess to not knowing much about Skydrive or Windows Live Photo Gallery BUT Windows has always had the facility ( Called File Associations) to let the user decide what programme opens what files . To give you an example I have normally used Windows Photo Viewer to open jpg's but ,as an experiment ,I changed it yesterday to Windows Live Photo Gallery and it worked but I changed it back again and am back to using Windows Photo Viewer but I could just as easily have asked it to use Paint Shop Pro,Photoshop Elements or one of the other programmes I have so I really cant see why you can't choose which programme you want to use ( excluding Skydrive)
Have a look here in Google ( Very useful thing Google )
https://www.google.co.uk/search?sourceid=na...ns+in+Windows+8
OR get yourself in to a Microsoft Forum where you might find folk with the same problem .

As for Outlook which is the old Hotmail I have had a look and I doubt you can get rid of that column .Personally I would suggest you use GMail instead and also open Thunderbird and read your e-mails there having got GMail to foward them to Thunderbird . I do that and hardly ever go to the GMail page except to look at the Junk Folder and tidy things up now and again .All my mail arrives in Thunderbird which checks for new mail every "x" minutes as per my preferences .
Hope all that is helpful

LASTLY .Can I please ask folk posting about Technical computer problems to give fuller details about what they are using as the solution is often dependent on that info .Please say if you use a PC,Mac or whatever ..also what Operating System/Version you are using as well.
thx

Thankyou again - I've sorted the column problem - when you open an email you can ask for it to be shown in full coloum version - I wish we could get rid of that third column completely though but perhaps in time this will happen - thankyou for your answers - and I will remember in future to put more details of my system in posts

No I don't have a disc - it was downloaded and I never got the disc - I have already had to do a restore from factory settings on this laptop about 18months ago because something similar happened now it looks as if it's happening again - don't think I will buy Samsung laptop again - even though I do like them
