Unconfirmed reports coming out of Marvel and Disney that Guardians of the Galaxy will be the next Marvel property in line for a live action big screen adaptation. Currently scheduled for release August 1 2014 following on from Iron Man 3 (May 2013), Thor 2 (November 2013) and Captain America 2 (April 2014). A second Avengers outing is then lined up for 2015.

On top of this Disney is currently working on an animated big screen adaptation of Big Hero 6 although that's unlikely to be the much whispered about Marvel/Pixar team-up that Disney is apparently keen to put together.

O_o
So after The Avengers Marvel is now just trying to get all their lesser known comics brought out as films? No matter how out of the blue.

Guardians of the Galaxy seems like a very odd choice to me.
And Big Hero 6 even more so. Who was looking for that one?
Mind you, GotG could work, but which incarnation would they go with?

At least this would mean that it wasn't completely out of the question that they could do a Young Avengers one at some point.

Totally this. Of all the Pixar films, Incredibles deserves a sequel. All the other unsequelised films can be left as stand alone films, although I can't deny I'm excited for Monsters Inc University.

Rumour has it that they're going to use Guardians to fully set up Thanos ahead of The Avengers 2 which would make some degree of sense.

This one actually makes a lot of sense to me. Its going to be a fully animated kids movie so they wanted a little known franchise that wouldn't make more sense as a live action family/adult film.

Not going to happen unfortunately. They won't do it without Brad Bird and he's busy doing live action films now and has said a couple of times he wouldn't do it without a story to match the first instalment.

Honestly, I must be the only person that didn't like The Invincibles.
Couldn't stand the father or the son and the entire plot (which involved the off screen murder of dozens of heroes) was a result of said father having been a douche to a fanboy.
And of course every member of the family including their little brat children are more capable than those killed heroes. rolleyes.gif

Yeah, that does make sense.
And I must admit I was kind of suspecting it was going to be for that reason.
Personally I hope they go with the latest incarnation of GotG. I.e.: Phyla-Vell, Mantis, Rocket Raccoon,...
Some of the old ones looked a bit silly and the latest incarnation will be more recognizable anyway. Unless they go with a completely new group made up of random cosmic Marvel characters.

Still seems like an odd choice to me. I understand they're suited for that format, but the team is so obscure.
They've had what 1 or 2 minis? They have practically zero presence in the Marvel Universe.

I know it's completely off topic, but are people really gonna still care about Captain America in April 2014? That's frigging MILES away, and I can't imagine a lot of people are gagging for it since the first one was so average.

This sort of sums up my problems with Guardians. I'm not a huge fan of the cosmic elements of the Marvel-verse and I think it has a real problem of coming off ridiculous. Although I had similar thoughts about Thor and they did a good job with that so we'll see what happens.

Having said all that I still think they should have gone with a stand alone female hero movie for their new film. Although its slim pickings on that I suppose.

That its an obscure franchise is why I think it makes sense. I don't think its going to be something that overtly trades off of the Marvel history either. Plus just in general I think potentially Big Hero 6 makes a great animated film.

I don't think its an issue. The Avengers has ramped up interest and with the right hype and promotion it'll be more than fine. Plus it'll contain build-up to Avengers 2 which will get people out as well I suspect. And they'll have the ability to plant seeds for it in Iron Man 3 and Thor 2.

Also CapAm in modern day = better than CapAm period piece. Not that I'm a huge Cap fan either way.

It's no wonder you didn't like it Nexus, you're watching the wrong film. Should have been watching The Incredibles, not The Invincibles wink.gif

How did that happen?
Yes, I meant of course the Incredibles. Thanks for pointing that out.
The sentiment remains the same though.

GotG, which would be the most recent version, the one currently appearing in Avengers Assemble, featuring Gamora, Drax, Rocket Raccoon, Groot, Bug and Star Lord, would be, for me, a huge gamble.

A talking raccoon with a big gun, two green people who aren't the Hulk (that's a lot of green come Avengers 2 if they're in it), plus a green insect man and a walking tree that can only so it's name......

I think it'd make more sense just to tease Thanos across all the films leading up to A2, and then spin GotG off of A2 if the prove popular.

Give me Ant-Man/Giant Man, with Hank and Janet as the 2014 film!

My personal choice would probably still be Luke Cage/Power Man for the open slot. Although I can see why Guardians appeals to them - its pretty different to anything else they've got out there right now. For purely cynical business reasons I'd also lean toward a stand alone female hero (but again the choice on that remains limited for Marvel).

On another note it may or may not be worth mentioning that Daredevil might be on the verge of reverting back to Marvel. Fox's option on the character expires at the end of the year and there plans to get a new version in production before then has hit a serious hurdle with David Slade dropping out as director. Fox is however moving forward with a Fantastic Four reboot helmed by Chronicle's Josh Trank

So they are going with the more current line up. Though no Mantis or Phyla-Vell. If that is the final roster they're going with.
I'm happy and sad at the same time. At least it seems it'll have Groot in there.
Props for a team with only one distinctly human looking main character (and Star-lord is only half human anyway).
It always seems to me that studios think audiances need humans to be able to empathise with a movie/show (I'm looking at you Michael Bay), but I don't agree with that.

I can't lie, I have absolutely no idea who or what the Guardians Of The Galaxy are. In fact, this thread is the first time I've heard of them.

That concept art looks crazy though. I mean, a racoon with a gun? Wtf, I can easily get on board with that.
