Hello guys,

I was just wondering if you could help me iron out a few of the creases I have with Ebay. Basically I set up an account the other week to sell a festival ticket.
It sold, yesterday and the buyer is coming to pick it upon thursday the 28th

However I'm a little confused on methods of payment of the site. The buyer won the bid on auction and contacted me asking the best time to pick up the ticket.
I'm not quite sure how the payment works, must I have set a 'Paypal' account and does the transaction go through that or do I have to ask him for cash. As far as I can see at the moment, he's won the auction but no payment has gone through.

Its all confusing my poor little brain.

Thanks for taking the time!!

Obviously you need to get paid and I have bought a few things where the seller has been local and I have just given him the cash when I went to collect it and that avoided any postage costs to me ..In your case the postage wd be minimal anyway . I have read of cases where there have been problems with collected items where payment has been in cash and the buyer has invoked a Paypal Dispute on account of the goods being faulty or even "not received" and ,of course the seller cannot provide proof of Delivery cos it wasn't "Delivered"
He could I suppose claim he was denied entry cos the ticket was fake and demand a refund but it all depends on whether you think he is a good guy .....chances are he is and there will be no problem .....
If you did have a Paypal a/c and he paid that way you would have some Fees to pay depending on the amount of the sale ..If you were selling more things you would find it a lot more convenient to have a PP account .
Did he not even mention payment or if it was OK to pick it up after the sale ...these things are usually spoken about ??? You still have time to post it I see if you prefer that ..send it Recorded Delivery if you do .

If you post it - Paypal

If he comes to pick it up - Cash. Only cash!

if someone is collecting an item you have sold on ebay, especially if it is expensive, only ever accept payment in cash when they collect and no other payment method.
If you allow them to pay by paypal there is nothing to stop them paying, picking up the item from you and then opening a paypal dispute for non receipt of the item.
If they do make a claim to paypal stating you wont give them their item, paypal will ask you for proof that you have given them the item, which you will not have it they have picked up.
You will be forced to refund in full and will have lost the item.
Most people on ebay are honest but there are plently of people out there who will rip you off given half the chance so cash on collection only at all times, if they pay by paypal refund them immediately and insist on cash when they pick up thumbsup.gif

If someone is collecting an item in person, I always get them to sign a receipt to say that they have collected the item, and I also sign it to say that the payment has been made.

I usually type two copies, giving one signed copy to the buyer, and retaining the other - then if there is a subsequent dispute at least I have some evidence. Although so far everyone has been honest and they've not needed, but it seems a sensible precaution to take.
