Apparently this has been in the works for quite some time but I only learned about it now. "Maleficent" tells the story of the witch from "Disney's Sleeping Beauty" and how she became the mistress of all evil. Angelina Jolie was cast as the main character and looks absolutely amazing in the first pic. Maleficent is universally claimed as the most evil and sinister Disney villain so the pressure is on. I'm quite excited about it but it will still be a while, the film is scheduled for 2014.

As I was reading I wasn't convinced, but that picture does look pretty good! Still a little wary they'll end up going down the somewhat cliché 'misunderstood, had a traumatic experience so turned bad' route, I think trying to explain her will diminish her a bit (not to mention produce sympathetic comments on any 'Sleeping Beauty' videos on Youtube from teenagers unable to understand the concept of an adaptation/interpretation!). Some villains should just be allowed to be bitches without an explanation!

Now hey! I love Flora, Fauna and Merriweather. I read their new names now somewhere, and there are only two 'fairies' who are 'guards.' The new names are shit. I'm sure they are now called fleckle and middledusk or something.
Quite exited about this. Jolie should be really good in this role. And I love a good fairytale related story. As for villains, I'm divided. On the one hand I like my villains thoroughly evil, but on the other hand I like a good sympathetic villain as well. I loved Wicked the musical and the first 2 books. Really hope this turns out good. And they better include an impressive dragon transformation.

Well that raises a point - it appears they've decided the horns are part of her head rather than just part of her hood. Given that they were designed to give a visual indication of her being evil, how will they square that with her supposedly becoming that way and thus presumably starting off... well, not?

I hope so, and will reserve judgement. But if that's the finished costume I'm kind of disappointed, unless that's in the early stages and she then develops her look as she becomes more evil and switches to black, in which case that's cool.
This shot was taken of her on set and doesn't really live up to what you expect from that first picture.
Erm, the costume is one of MANY, I presume.
I'm not sure what I make of the horns. But the like rest I'll reserve jugdement. I'm excited. I take it by the picture they've already begun filming. But the release back is almost 2 years away.... that's quite a LONG time.

They're filming all over the world I think and are filming it in stages, though I'm not entirely sure. These shots are from scenes in the UK apparently. Plus there'll be loads of post production and CGI I would assume, so it'll take a good while to get it ready.

They probably want it to be a summer blockbuster and because they can't get it ready for summer 2013 they pushed it for another year. I mean that's what people did with Harry Potter didn't they? Pushed it for a year even though it was already filmed only to have a film for the summer.

I liked it. Visually it was done nicely and it kept you entertain with the whole whodunit plot. I liked the gritty dark atmosphere. I'm not saying it was amazing but decent enough. Sue me.
