The thing is Britain has the widest variety of landscape (relative to land area) in the world, so a green village is only small representation of what Britain has to offer in terms of countryside.

If it were an accurate respresentation of England, it would start off a green pastoral field; then and at the end of the Olympics, up a massive Tesco store, with a flytip and an massive windfarm wink.gif

I've read in a couple of papers that this all might be a big red herring designed to keep people from guessing the real ceremony content.

The mock-up did look very Blue Peter.

Some people can't help but be dismissive about anything Olympic related, basing an evening's entertainment on the model alone. This is just the start of the story (from what I've seen elsewhere). There are aerial images of the stadium showing the Thames flowing through the centre stage - it will likely be that the rural countryside slowly transforms into the city itself. For a temporary structure, I think the countryside setting will be an exciting, but organic start to an Olympic games and really set it apart from 2008 in Beijing.
