QUOTE
Danny Boyle has unveiled a model shot of his opening ceremony of the London 2012 Olympics.

The 127 Hours director is the artistic mastermind behind the event, which he has previously named 'Isles of Wonder'.

Boyle explained that the Olympic Stadium "will be transformed into the British countryside" for the opening ceremony on July 27.

10,000 volunteers will be used to recreate the countryside image, along with a backdrop of farmyard animals and other landmarks including the Glastonbury Tor.

Boyle revealed that the opening scene of the ceremony will be called 'Green and Pleasant', reports BBC News.

He explained that the event will create "a picture of ourselves as a nation".

"The best way to tell that story is through working with real people," he added.

Talking about the 157 cast rehearsals so far, he said: "I've been astounded by the selfless dedication of the volunteers, they are the pure embodiment of the Olympic spirit and represent the best of who we are as a nation."

The largest bell in Europe will also ring inside the stadium to begin the ceremony, which will also be inspired by the works of William Shakespeare.

The 50-minute pre-show starts July 27 at 8.12pm and the ceremony kicks off properly at 9pm with the ringing of the bell.

Sir Paul McCartney will also perform during the closing section of the opening ceremony.

Following Beijing's though is tough.

Its almost impossible. Bejing's budget was almost limitless.
We have budget of around £27 million.

So far it looks like a farm.

Maybe it's to point out that wholesome athletes look like they grew up on a farm? blink.gif

Does London need to "create" a real raincloud? blink.gif

Haha, I tend to agree with those sentiments!

I getting rather fed up with it before it's even started.
How on earth the carrying of the Olympic torch can be made into a major news item, day after day, week after week is beyond me.
It's pretty much the boring same, whether it's in Bristol, Glasgow or wherever.

And I can't help thinking that the final cost of it all could have reduced Britain's budget deficit by about half!

Would it not be better to ask how they are going to create any sunshine, I mean, a rain cloud is a given - it's England in the summer!

I just hope that Boyle has explained the subtlties of his plans to the Finnish Directors from YLE Helsinki who are directing/producing the coverage of the ceremonies for Olympic Broadcasting Services.

He can't win. He'll never top Beijing and will be criticised for it.

It's not very farm/countryside like in London where this is held though.

This is kind of my problem. Yes, England has elements of what he going to create but its only a tiny element.

What about London? What about the architecture, culture, icons? What about the rest of ENGLAND!!!

This "green and pleasant land" is the PRE SHOW. (according to the people I know who are performing in it)
