To be honest I'm only interested in this film because the novel is one of my favourites, and the author has actually written and directed the film himself which is promising thumbsup.gif

anyone interested?

as an outsider who's never read the book before, I'd probably think this looks like a pile of hipster tosh laugh.gif

the book is great though, trust me!

There's already a bit of discussion about the trailer in View Tube HERE
Personally I loved the book and have reasonably high hopes for the film, although there is a huge negative already in that it was granted a 12A cert. in the US so the themes and content have obviously been compromised in quite a big way. From the trailer I'd say the tone looks to be about right, particularly the music but I hope they use voice-over for some of Charlie's bits rather than have Lerman speaking directly to camera too much. From the clips I'd also say that Ezra Miller seems to be pitching Patrick a bit too obviously camp but then hopefully thats not necessarily representative of the film as a whole.

I've only just finished the book and from watching the trailer it seems that the film will leave out anything that made the book charming and likeable and used the story/characters to string together a generic Hollywood-but-looks-indie coming of age love story. So I don't think I want to watch it.

Oh and Emma Watson once knocked over my wine and didn't even apologise, gets RIGHT on my tits. mad.gif

The film has been getting a majority of positive reviews Saintly, mainly saying it was better than they expected, surprisingly moving etc.

I think you may be pleasantly surprised when you go see it smile.gif

has a current score of 84% on Rotten Tomatoes. Unlike Taken 2 which I've just noticed is on 8%! lol_2.gif

Every review makes sure to mention how fantastic Ezra is. What did you think?

Not thinking I'll see it until it's on DVD.

Early days but currently in the 80's% on rotten tomatoes and all the film reviewers I have on twitter seem to have warmed to it.
Erza Miller seemingly like the common demonator of scene stealer.
I really hope its understated.

Saw it today. I haven't read the book so I have no idea how faithful it is but I just thought it was brilliant. Lerman gives a fantastic performance and Miller is near perfect. Emma Watson's accent holds up and you almost forget she's not American straight away or at least you don't care about it. It captures that time period perfectly and the soundtrack is fabulous too.

I want to see it, but Emma Watson is putting me off. I love her, I think she's an amazing actress, but she is not who I pictured as playing Sam at all. I can't imagine her doing the character as I imagined her, and Sam was one of the best things about the book for me.

Saw it last night and am a huge HUGE fan of the book. I thought it was a good adaptation, though missed what I thought was some key points. I don't think the film suffered much as a result though.

I think I enjoyed the film more as I was such a fan of the book, I don't know how I would have felt had I not read the book.

Logan Lerman was an excellent casting as Charlie, as are Ezra and Emma. Perhaps not how I had imagined the characters but having read the book after having seen the cast, I can easily fit them into the roles.

Five stars from me.

I absolutely loved it. I know it's probably not THE best film of the year, but it's probably my personal fave.

The actors are spot on. I wasn't sure of Emma at first, but during a couple of intimate scenes she really showed a vulnerable side to her which made me realise, wow she can act. Logan is perfect as Charlie, the guy is so adorable.

The whole film felt to me timeless, a lot of films nowadays to me feel too modern and full of too many cultural references which will mean nothing soon. This films NINETIES!! setting was just great, the fuzzy colours on screen were lovely. The film just makes me really wanna be young again sad.gif

sure a couple of things were kept out from the book, but nothing major.
