My PC keeps switching it self off after maybe 15 mins of using it, what ever I am in the middle of doing. It just goes dark. I am so clue-less about them it is untrue. Does any one have any ideas what is going on or how I can fix it??

How much Ram Memory do you have? How much spare space is there on your Hard Drive. Cd the PC be overheating as that can cause it to power down... rove the side(s) and check all the fans are working.

It could be anything. Faulty power supply, faulty motherboard (including faulty capacitors), faulty RAM, faulty processor, overheating processor, and more. These kind of faults tend to be very difficult to diagnose.

I'd start by running memtest86 on it. Download the ISO from http://www.memtest86.com/ , burn it to a CD, boot from the CD and leave it testing for a few hours if it can manage it. If it still turns off you know it's unrelated to Windows. If you get a memory error you know it's something related to memory and some kind of hardware fault. If it managed to keep running for a few hours it *could* be software related - in which case I'd start by backing everything up and reinstalling Windows.

That was happening on my desktop PC. Not after 15 minutes, but at odd times a couple of times a week. I was able to diagnose a faulty power supply and replaced it with a new one. (I forget how I diagnosed it. Read stuff on the internet.)

The external case almost certainly won't. It's the temperature of internal components like the processor which will trigger a thermal shutdown - this can happen if the heatsink and/or fan are well clogged up with dust.

But if it has overheated, I would hope that BIOS would tell you this when it's next booted - but not guaranteed.

This happened to me about three weeks ago. It would just shut down with the message 'no signal'. Took it to be repaired and only cost £20. Don't know what the cause was though
