CBS Drama
A fairly bog standard development slate from the folks at CBS. You know what they say, if it ain't broke don't fix it.
Early buzz went to Golden Boy after the casting of Ryan Phillippe however when he dropped out and was replaced by relatively unknown British actor Theo James things cooled down a little. The supporting cast remains impressive though. The Ralph Lamb project increasingly looks like one to watch thanks to a starry cast, impressive names behind the camera and the fact that CBS have been looking for a modern western for a while now.
Elementary has been a lightening rod for controversy already with accusations of CBS copying the BBC's Sherlock. Despite some reservations Johnny Lee Miller is a strong piece of casting not to be ignored. But its hard to see where the chips will fall at CBS because a lot of these projects can just blur into one another.
Again pick your favourite:
Applebaum Procedural based on Ayelet Waldman's series of books about Juliet Applebaum, a public defender turned stay at home mum and private investigator. Rachelle Lafevre (A Gifted Man, Twilight) leads a cast that includes Jay Mohr (Gary Unmarried) and fellow A Gifted Man alum Rhys Coiro. Christopher Columbus is tapped to driect.
Baby Big Shot Drama about a working class woman who uses her street smarts to compete with her more polished colleagues in a Manhattan law firm. Janet Montgomery (Human Target), Pablo Schreiber (Lights Out) and Kyle MacLachlan (Desperate Housewives) star.
Elementary A modern day re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes that casts the titular detective as a former Scotland Yard consultant now relocated to New York. Johnny Lee Miller is cast as Holmes with Lucy Lui set to play Joan Watson his personal recovery assistant.
Golden Boy Drama that tracks one man's meteoric rise from uniform cop at age 26 to police commissioner at age 34. Ryan Phillippe was originally cast as lead but dropped out before production began and was replaced by British actor Theo James (Bedlam). Chi McBride (Pushing Daisies), Holt McCallany (Lights Out) and Kevin Alejandro (True Blood, Southland) round out the cast.
Trooper Drama from executive producer Jerry Bruckheimer about a common sense mother who becomes a New York state trooper. Oscar winner Mira Sorvino stars.
Untitled Ralph Lamb Project Dennis Quaid stars as Ralph Lamb in a drama about the 60's cowboy turned Las Vegas sheriff. Michael Chiklis (The Shield), Carrie-Anne Moss (The Martrix) and Jason O'Mara (Terra Nova) co-star. Goodfellas writers Nicholas Pileggi and Greg Walker have penned the pilot and James Mangold (3:10 to Yuma, The Wolverine) is tapped to direct.
The Widow Detective John Corbett (Parenthood, Sex in the City) stars as a decorated detective who has lost three partners in the line of duty and now serves as the male figure in his fallen partners' families.

QUOTE(Mister R @ Mar 19 2012, 22:03) Lets start looking at pilot development then shall we...
Americana Drama from Michael Seitzman (North Country) about a legendary fashion designer, his business and his family. Anthony LaPaglia (Without a Trace) and Annabeth Gish (The Westing Wing, Brotherhood) star with Phillip Noyce (Salt, Patriot Games) set to direct the pilot.
Americana is filming on West 58th Street today by Columbus Circle. Five A&F model type guys walked past me in short dressing gowns heading into an office block. They seem to be filming on the 1st floor lit from oütside so lots of trucks, craft services etc.

A weekly dose of male models is as good a reason as any to root for the success of Americana I suppose. It is one of the many pilots with a terrible title though. QUOTE(darker_phoenix @ Mar 20 2012, 14:51) Is Ringer cancelled?
It will be.

Untitled Karyn Usher Project Action drama from Karyn Usher (Bones, Prison Break) executive produced by Shawn Levy (Red Steel, Date Night) with Brett Ratner (Tower Heist, Rush Hour) set to direct. An orphaned 14-year old daughter of a CIA agent is recruited as an operative herself. Oscar nominee Angela Bassett and Nip/Tuck's Julian McMahon lead the cast.
Untitled Kevin Williamson Project A high concept serial killer drama from Kevin Williamson (Scream) about a serial killer who used technology to create a cult of killers and the FBI agent who finds himself in the middle of it. Kevin Bacon stars alongside James Purefoy (Rome) and Shawn Ashmore (X-Men).
These are the only ones that interest me. And the first one only if it's like the comic book Frenemy of the state. If not, then I can see it being incredibly annoying. The second one sounds really interesting though.

NBC Drama
An interesting and unpredictable slate of dramas from NBC as they take a gamble on trying to rebuild a crumbling network.
NBC were the first to take a show to series with Bryan Fuller's Hannibal bypassing the pilot stage and getting a 13 episode commitment. Fuller's other NBC project Mocking Bird Lane (a remake of The Munsters) is also hotly tipped for a series order despite shooting on the pilot being delayed until the summer. It'll likely be a midseason replacement and having seen some of the concept art it looks fantastic.
The big story of this development slate though is NBC rebuilding bridges with the creative community. Dick Wolf, John Wells, JJ Abrams, Bryan Fuller, Jason Katims and Thomas Schlamme all having projects in contention is an incredibly loaded slate and it makes betting on big names a hard thing to do. For what its worth I like the look of Wolf's Chicago Fire, Katims' County unsurprisingly has a great script, the Abrams/Kripke drama is the big exciting concept drama you want from Abrams and Wells' Bad Girls remake is just bizarre but after the success of Shameless US who the hell knows.
Mixed in with big names are some really interesting concepts though. Beautiful People is one of the more intriguing drama pitches of the season and The Frontier is an incredibly ambitious project for network television. Meanwhile Midnight Sun has the benefit of being based on an Israeli format and with the success of Homeland that couldn't be hotter right now and it helps that its another really good Israeli concept.
Enjoy!
Bad Girls John Wells' (ER, The West Wing) take on the long running ITV drama set inside a woman's prison with Nancy Pimental (South Park, Shameless US) behind the script. Amy Smart (Crank), Zoe Boyle (Downton Abbey), Tracee Ellis Ross (Girlfriends) and Jurnee Smollett (Friday Night Lights) are amongst the cast.
Beautiful People A 'what if' drama set in the near future where families of mechanical human beings exist to serve the human population until some of the mechanicals begin to 'awaken'. Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under), Ernie Hudson (Oz, Ghostbusters), David Conrad (Ghost Whisperer), Andrea Parker (Less Than Perfect) and James Murray (Chaos) all star.
Chicago Fire Drama from executive producer Dick Wolf (Law & Order) about the men and women of the Chicago fire department. Jesse Spencer (House) stars alongside Monica Raymund (Lie to Me), David Eigenberg (Sex in the City), Eamonn Walker (Oz) and Taylor Kinney (Trauma).
County New drama from Emmy winning writer Jason Katims (Friday Night Lights, Parenthood) about the lives of a young group of doctors, nurses and administrators in a frenetic, underfunded and morally compromising LA County hospital. Jason Ritter (The Event, Parenthood), Michael Imperioli (The Sopranos), Michael B Jordan (Friday Night Lights, Chronicle), Aimee Garcia (Dexter, Trauma) and Agam Darshi (Sanctuary) star.
Do No Harm A modern day take on Jekyll and Hyde from David Schulner (The Event, Kings) about a brilliant neurosurgeon who wrestlers with his alter ago that threatens to destroy his personal and professional life. Steven Pasquale (Rescue Me) is cast in the lead role with Phylicia Rashad (The Cosby Show) and Alana de la Garza (Law & Order) in supporting roles.
The Frontier Period drama set in 1840 about a diverse group of people who set out from Missouri on an incredible journey across the western landscape to Oregon. Thomas Schlamme (The West Wing, Pan Am) is signed onto direct the pilot so it'll look brilliant if nothing else. The cast is largely unknown.
Hannibal [Already Ordered To Series] A small screen take on Robert Harris' signature character from Bryan Fuller (Pushing Daisies, Heroes) that will explore Hannibal's early dealings with a young FBI profiler who is haunted by his ability to emphasis with serial killers. Essentially its a prequel to Red Dragon. NBC have ordered directly to series with a 13 episode commitment. No casting currently announced.
Midnight Sun Drama about the FBI's investigation in the disappearance of a remote cult in Alaska that taps into a wider political conspiracy. Based on an original Israeli drama. Julia Stiles (Bourne, Dexter) will lead the cast as an FBI cult specialist. Titus Welliver (Deadwood, The Good Wife) and Michael James-Raymond (Terriers, True Blood) co-star.
Mocking Bird Lane [Delayed Until Summer] Bryan Fuller's (Pushing Daisies) modern day take on classic series The Munsters. Bryan Singer is attached to direct what promises to be a visually stunning pilot. Eddie Izzard has just closed a deal to star with shooting delayed until summer its being eyed as a midseason replacement.
Notorious Drama about a female detective who returns undercover to the wealthy family she grew up in (as the maid's daughter) to solve the murder of the notorious heiress who was once her closest friend. Tate Donovan (Damages, The OC) and Victor Garber (Eli Stone, Alias) are both attached.
Revolution High concept drama from Eric Kripke (Supernatural) and executive produced by JJ Abrams about a group of characters struggling to survive and reunite with loved ones in a world where all forms of energy have mysteriously ceased to exist. Billy Burke (Twilight) and Andrea Roth (Rescue Me) are amongst the cast and Jon Favreau (Iron Man) is set to direct.

QUOTE(GS Maniac @ Mar 21 2012, 10:11) Hope that Cougar Town gets renewed.
Season 3 started a few weeks back, that any good or do you mean that you want it renewed for another season (season 4)?

The CW Drama
Bless The CW even when they're shooting for bold and creative (and someone at The CW actually used those exact words to describe their development slate) they can't help but miss the mark a little. A shameless attempt to recreate Smallville, a Sex in the City prequel that is morphing into a Gossip Girl prequel, a remake of a classic 80's cult series, a procedural that has a passing resemblance to Castle and a tween take on Grey's Anatomy are amongst their transgressions this year.
Overlooking all that Arrow is picking up increasing buzz and moves ever closer to a locked in series order and The Carrie Diaries is the kind of show that The CW believe are their bread and butter. There's at least one interesting show on the slate though. Dakota is a US remake of an Israeli format (another one) and is interesting to say the least.
Your last drama slate to digest:
Arrow A new take on the DC hero Green Arrow from Greg Berlanti and Marc Guggenheim (Eli Stone) that David Nutter (Game of Thrones) is set to direct. Stephen Amell (Hung, Private Practice) takes the lead role with Paul Blackthorne (Lipstick Jungle, The River), Kattie Cassidy (Melrose Place, Gossip Girl), David Ramsey (Outlaw, Dexter) and Colin Salmon (Strike Back, Resident Evil) also cast.
Beauty & The Beast Drama about a female detective who partners with a genetically altered Afghan veteran to solve crimes in New York. Remake of the classic 80's cult series of the same name. Kristen Kruek (Smallville) and Jay Roach (Neighbours) take the title roles.
The Carrie Diaries A Sex in the City prequel about the high school years of Carrie Bradshaw. AnnaSophia Robb (Charlie & the Chocolate Factory) takes on the role of Carrie with Gossip Girl's Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage signed on as executive producers. Amy Harris (Sex in the City, Gossip Girl) will run it.
Cult Drama about a production designer on a wildly popular television show who teams with a journalist blogger to investigate the rabid fans of the show who might be recreating the crimes seen on the show. Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl) are executive producing with Rockne O'Bannon (Farscape) writing the pilot. Robert Knepper (Prison Break) is amongst the cast.
Dakota Fantasy drama/comedy about a young documentary maker who travels back in time to prevent the death of her 90's musical idol only to find out that the story is more complicated than she thought. Based on a hit Israeli format. Craig Horner (Legend of the Seeker) and Scott Wolfe (Party of Five) are cast.
First Cut Medical drama about a young medical student who discovers that being an intern is a lot like being in high school. Justin Hartley (Smallville), Jack Coleman (Heroes) and Michael Rady (The Mentalist) are all cast.
The Selection Drama based on a the soon to be published book by Kiera Cass set in a dystopian future where a group of young women are chosen by a lottery to compete to become the next queen of a war torn nation. Elizabeth Craft and Sarah Fain (Secret Circle, Women's Murder Club) have written the pilot. Aimee Teegarden (Friday Night Lights), Sean Patrick Thomas (Save the Last Dance) and William Moseley (Chronicles of Narnia) have been cast.
Shelter New drama from Mark Schwahn (One Tree Hill) about the staff and guests of a Maine inn. Unknown British actress Elizabeth Henstridge is cast and JJ Abrams is set to executive produce.
