With pilot season now in full swing its that time of year again when the US broadcast networks begin to make their renewal, cancellations and eventually pick-up decisions for new shows. CBS is already well ahead of the curve having announced the early renewal of 18 shows placing those few remaining shows in jeopardy (more on that in a moment). NBC have also gotten into the pick-up game this week whilst all the networks have discarded a handful of shows throughout the year. This is however a long drawn out process that's going to roll on through to May so get comfortable.

Round-ups to follow.

Yay this is one of my favourite yearly threads.

Even though I don't watch AS many shows as I used to, I still like to keep track of what's happening.

I think Grimm is awful.

I did love 90210 but that now ticks boxes as storylines and fails to develop any storyline thoroughly and properly to see it out. I realise it was so high brow outstanding show to begin with but it was watchable, I've tuned out this season mid way as every character swans around not bothering about anything but relationships and maintaining a '90210' lifestyle.

I'd like to New Girl renewed because I like that show and its good to see Greys and PP still going. Greys especially which captured my heart.

Thanks mister R,you show you know your shit on American Television and for that I am grateful.

I'll be sad if Ringer goes too, although i'm not too sure how much mileage it has really.

I agree Sexy, 90210 has been terrible this year. I know that isn't saying much, but normally it's one of my favourite guilty pleasures of the week on E4 and at the moment the storylines are just awful!

I hope Body of Proof doesn't get cancelled but I can live with the River being cancelled provided they wrap things up properly.

Castle will hopefully be renewed smile.gif and I hope the same goes for Cougar Town.

All my CBS shows are renewed, so yay biggrin.gif

I'm surprised that, in your opinion, Glee is only likely to be renewed unsure.gif I hope Raining Hope will be renewed and I'm happy about Grimm!

I honestly hope Ringer will be cancelled (again with a proper wrap up) but I hope Hart of Dixie will be renewed.

Great round up. Gutted about a few being cancelled there and my head really hurts thinking about how some of those will be renewed.

what are its general viewing figures like in America?

I was just starting to get into "The Finder"..."A Gifted Man" was OK and if it ends at least they did it with a proper ending and closure. Still like CSI:NY although haven't watched CSI:Miami since it turned into a soap opera, besides the only thing that 'Horatio' does isw takes off his glasses. With all the struggles they have had on that show (at least in the past when I did watch it), he and the rest of his team would have been fired long ago (if it was real life). Glad to see NBC retain "Grimm".

Don't forget Bones is still in it's 7th season at the moment. They filmed some episodes and then took a break to allow Emily Deschanel some time to spend with her new baby. So they can't really make a decision about an 8th season yet.

Hope Harry's Law doesn't get cancelled. It's the best show on the box (despite the changes they made to it for the second season). Quality acting and writing. It can be thought provoking, funny, moving. What more do people want from a tv show?

Glee has really gone downhill. They've introduced too many characters. It was better when they focused on the core characters in the first season.

Agree about Ringer but just don't know where they can take the story after one season. I hope The Secret Circle gets renewed as it's really good.

TBH my favourite show at the moment is Ringer, but it's number in the states are so bad, there is no hope of a second season sad.gif They have filmed the finale leaving it open for another season, which I'm gutted about. I hate when shows don't end properly.

Also, you only have the fox shows are "likely to be renewed", but they are all certain - especially New Girl which is Fox's #1 scripted show. Bones, Glee & New Girl are all back next year. Secret Circle is also likely to be renewed as it's CW's #2 scripted show, and not on the bubble. It would be a big surprise if it gets cancelled. Even though I do like it, I would happily swap Secret Circle for Ringer

A few random notes

Glee's ratings have dropped dramatically this year and the general confusion regarding the shows creative future and the cast's future hasn't helped matters. Having said that I'll be surprised if it isn't renewed but it remains likely rather than certain until the back run of episodes returns and everyone gets a better idea of how its shaping up and what a fourth season would actually be.

As with Glee I'd be surprised if New Girl isn't renewed but its lost momentum during 2012 and the numbers are slowly starting to suffer now that its part of an incredibly weak comedy block on Fox. It'll remain likely rather than certain until Glee returns and we see whether it can rebuild some of its momentum from the start of the season.

Bones is only likely rather than certain because its barely aired any episodes this year. I'd expect it to be back but the big creative changes under way this season and that its now being thrown on to Monday nights make it hard to lock that in until we actually see some proper numbers for it.

Secret Circle isn't The CW's second biggest show. On season to date averages it trails both The Vampire Diaries and Supernatural. More importantly than that though is that relative to expectations for it the show has been a pretty disappointment for The CW. This week it scored a 0.7 in the demo. That's only a tenth higher than 90210 and is a tenth lower than One Tree Hill which is in its final season and airing opposite American Idol. In addition to all of that there's general rumblings of a near complete overhaul of The CW on the horizon.

Yeah, I hate it when you find out a show has already been cancelled just as it airs here or before. Makes you think "why waste my time?".

So is that "Revenge" programme any good which starts on E4 later this year? I usually get addicted to trash if that's what it is.
