Amazing performance at the Superbowl, I loved it!

Britney could do something better? Did you see her last tour?
Stomp stomp stomp hair flip (repeat for 2 hours). And that's coming from a Britney fan.

People are talking like Madonna tripped and fell over for the whole thing, she struggled to get on a bench for a second then she got on it... crisis averted.

I said Britney mimes better not that she puts on a better show. I don't follow her career that closely I don't know how she performs these days but when I see her on telly she mimes proper and in to her credit also she has some stage presence which I missed with Madonna cause as I said if she was there or not what difference would it have made.
I also didn't even notice she was struggling to get on some bench what I think is that her whole dancing in general was awkward and restrained.
Maybe for someone else this would have been a good performance but for Madonna it just wasn't.

on balance, i think it was very good. Not Madonna at her best, but when the bar is (usually) so high etc...

- the lip synch thing - am glad she did it - it was always going to be a choice of spectacle / dance vs rocking out / live, and she did what ultimately was not expected of her ... high camp @ Superbowl: brilliant. if she did some U2 style rock out, she'd have been accused of selling out (and, let's be honest, doesn't do it that well).

- the 'guest artists' thing - i didn't like it, and frankly think Madonna is one of the few artists who would have been more than able to fill that space alone, but from what i've seen of some Superbowl shows, it's long since been the done thing to rope in a couple of 'youngsters'. The most heartbreaking example being Aerosmith having to share their stage with Nelly, Mary J Blige and Britney Spears! I also think it's increasinly part of the music landscape for artists to 'dilute' and seek mass appeal by collaborating on a track (sometimes 4 or 5 named artists on one song!). I personally don't like it, but what Madonna is doing on 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' is just what's been happening increasingly for years now. The 'guests' for Madonna last night were pointless.

- the choice of songs was overall good. Music was not necessary. Ray Of Light should have been included for a rock out moment (mixed with 'Gambler' would have been amazing). The mixing of the tracks was surprisingly clumsy - i kind of expected some kind of blistering megamix... this for me was a serious 'fail'. 'Like A Prayer' is one of those iconic and incredible songs that should never be edited for any purposes. 'Give Me All Your Luvin'' was good, but i got a sinking feeling Madonna got the Superbowl deal first (or was going for it), and created this track specifically for the event.

so yeah, overall, it was good, but i know she can do so much better.

I think some people must have been watching a different performance. For a small slot it was incredible. The themes in the performance were better than anything in her tours so far.

The song choice was excellant. I do believe she mimed but I am convinced Like A Prayer was live. And although she mimed mostly I think it was to a live recording that had probably been slightly edited. I never noticed anything dodgy about her miming skills either, ok once or twice she was off but so has everyone sometime.

The guests were unnecessary but as they didn't do much they weren't too much of a distraction.

Her dancing was the best I've ever seen her dance, and at 53 years old to be able to still want to do that is an achievement.

She looked great and happy even. Some people say she should act/dress her age well I think she was actually dressed quite modestly. I mean a woman is 53 should she cover every bit of flesh up?

I think she should definitely try and behave her age.
Madonna used to be this groundbreaking original artists and now all she does is running after trends and is desperately trying to prove she is still sexy and down with the kids.
She should embrace the fact being in a different place in her life and use it as inspiration for her work instead of shagging guys a third of her age and fleshing her bits everywhere only to prove a point.
It's desperate, she doesn't need it.

Right, I've now seen the half time show and thought that it was mostly very good. Like others said the lighting was amazing and it was well choreographed (and I have no issue with Madonna dancing and wearing revealing outfits; she pulls it off). There's no question in my mind that she's in incredibly good shape and looked fantastic. notworthy.gif

I also agree, however, that the switch between songs was poorly done and the lip-syncing was at times truly dreadful. Britney may be better at miming (well, she's had enough practice!) but there's no way she could have put on a better show. Props to Madonna, she did well and can still show the young'uns how it should be done! smile.gif

Nicki Minaj's 20 second rap was better than Madonna last night. It's also the only good thing about this song.

No one can excuse her miming with the energetic dancing line, her dancing was nothing special and at times embarrassing, i'm referring to the part where she throws her leg up to Redfoo and then does whatever the fuck that was. And it was a bad move trying to shuffle with them because they looked like they were holding back on account of how awkward she was at it.

Good thinking - you'll get two for the price of one and still have enouch for a programme.

Just so long as you keep heating it to the point where it starts top burn, then it's okay.

You guys seen that as an incentive to buy her album Madonna allowed people to download the song for free on iTunes, but free downloads aren't counted toward the chart so thousands of copies that were got through iTunes won't count toward her chart position this week?

I've actually found an article that is very positive towards Madonna. It's rare these days unfortunately.

I love Gaga more than this writer seems to but Madonna is still Queen.

Lady Gaga is great but until she has a career over at least a decade, to me she isn't going to compare to Madonna. She's been going 30 years and has constantly reinvented herself and her music. Very few others can say that and who is to say where lady Gaga will be in 2 years. Personally. I am not s big Madonna fan but I would never bet on her being written off or past it.

The single has now gone top 10 in America (her 38th! top ten hit) though I suspect the no. 10 position is where it'll most likely peak at ... radio plays are down on last week given the end of the promotional Super Bowl tie in!

I'm hoping for a physical release in the UK at some point in March to help recover the single's position (granted the song is no Ray of Light or Hung Up!).
