I think what they're (Crystal Dynamics) saying here is that none of the games happened - they've totally rebooted the character, eliminating their own earlier reboot when they took over from Core.
I can understand why, like. They needed to reboot Lara in order to claim ownership of the series, but 'their Lara' was generally not what the fans wanted, and by melding their series with the Core series (taking parts of her back story, eliminating others..) they made things difficult for themselves as they couldn't marry the two entirely different characters and their histories.
Now they're having another go at 'owning' the character by starting an entirely new Lara in a new universe, removing the rod they made for their own back, basically.
That being said, Lara to me will always be the vaguely sociopathic girl in TR3 who would gun anyone in her way down
