So in contrast to the Final Fantasy thread, Zelda being the second largest franchise, what are you're favourites/ranking order. Ocarina usually gets the number 1 spot but as a young'un I played the gameboy versions first & they have that nostalgic feeling every time I go back to them. In general I just loved the old school feeling of the gameboy games & the characters, music, storylines were all stand out as well as the fact there was so much to do in each of them which was seriously impressive by gameboy standards. Oracle of Seasons was the first Zelda game I owned (although I had played parts of Ocarina at a friends house several times) I remember picking it up at 'The Big W' when that was still around in a bargain bin for about a tenner and have really fond memories of completing it 100% which I can't even do now with games. Obviously then I needed Oracle of Ages because I really wanted to carry on the story & use the password codes towards Seasons. It was almost as good but I remember getting frustrated with the constant time travel and getting lost. Of course Links Awakening is a classic, Koholint was such a great setting & the storyline was really quite emotional which can't usually be said for a gameboy game. The inclusion of all the other Nintendo references were pretty fun too. In regards to the console versions, Majoras Mask & Ocarina are the stand out titles. As great as Ocarina is, I loved the weird setting of Termina. The atmosphere had that creepy feeling which was a complete change compared to it's prequel and the 3 day time frame was fun because for once you could see characters doing different things as time went on. The moon & Skullkid still kind of freak me out! Obviously Ocarina of Time needs no explaination as to why it is so great, i'm actually replaying through this now on the ol' Gamecube. For me Majora's Mask still has the edge. There really are too many titles to list but these 5 are my favourite. How do the Zelda titles rank in your opinion? Im sure there'll be quite a few with a bit to say This post has been edited by matt91: May 7 2011, 01:07

QUOTE(matt91 @ May 7 2011, 12:43) I liked Wind Waker but travelling just took forever and it was mostly just vast sea with nothing to do but wait until you arrived at the destination. Having to continuously change the wind direction was also a pain especially when it came to the triforce quest.
I think that's why I don't like it, it too long to get anywhere and was just a bit boring.

A Link to the Past was the first one I ever played, but never got very far. I think I got to one point where I knew roughly where the temple I was aiming for was, but couldn't actually find the way to it. Checking the map showed me I kept going past the entrance but never finding it, so in the end I gave up.
Link's Awakening was the first (and for a long time only) one I ever completed, and it bears up to multiple plays being just as enjoyable every time for me, maybe because I always leave just enough time between plays to forget some of the finer details so can enjoy figuring it all out again. It was also for a long time the only Gameboy one I liked, I never warmed to the Oracle ones or Minish Cap for some reason.
Ocarina of Time was just absolutely sensational. Suddenly being plunged into a 3D Hyrule was ridiculously exciting for me as a child/early teen. The impact in terms of story is inevitably diminished with subsequent plays, but it still remains one of my favourite games, if not the favourite for all other aspects, gameplay, scenery, music, all of it superb. I even once created a whole new save file and started from scratch just so I could fight Twinrova again! I can't imagine anything beating the feeling when you first visited each new location.
I've tried Majora's Mask several times and never really got into it. I get a little further each time, but in the end the constant repetition always annoys me too much and I don't bother to carry on. That or I reach a point where there are several options for what to do next and I fail miserably at all of them. I still think Link's reaction to putting on the transformation masks, while probably an accurate representation of what you'd do in such a situation, was a bit excessively graphic and scary. And I didn't like the alien shoot out bit, it just seemed odd.
I agree with matt91 about the travelling in Windwaker, even with the warps it took ages to get where you wanted to go. Also the last time I played it I failed to find the last Great Fairy, despite going to every square on the map multiple times. That annoyed me. On the plus side though it was like playing a Zelda cartoon, which is always a great idea, and had the novel idea of allowing extras for additional play-throughs, like the chance to do it in your original clothes, the colour pictobox and (as I understand, although I never did play it through again far enough to find out) the opportunity to have Jabun and Valoo's specch translated.
Twilight Princess was awesome for similar reasons to Ocarina, but the wow factor was more in the quality of the graphics whereas with OoT it was amazing just because it was 3D Zelda. I liked Boobyharpy (whose name I can't remember), but was a little creeped out by the fact that her son was effectively a disembodied head with wings. Loved the graphics style and gameplay though, and the references to past games.
Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks were both games that made me do a very annoying thing - I enjoyed them so much I stopped playing near the end because I didn't want to finish them. I do that quite a lot with games, it's a logic that works in my head at the time but then later seems daft. So yeah, loved both of those, and will haev to dig them out and start them up again soon.
So that's my take on all the Zeldas I'm familiar with. If I had to pick a top 3 I'd say Link's Awakening for nostalgia, Windwaker for replayability and Ocarina for just all round amazingness.
