and?

I still don't see why every women in the world seems to be reading this. Lots of discussion about it on various websites, feminists defending and denouncing it lol_2.gif The underlying storyline over the course of the three books is ok, nothing new or very original and slightly predictable from very early on in the first part. The characters are well written and there is some character development. The main problem I have with it is
SPOILERS !!!!!

the whole trilogy is based on the fact that a dominant male (abused as child so lots of issues but a multi-billionaire nevertheless) falls in love with a non-submissive woman (a virgin who still manages to deep-throat him at her first attempt even though, of course, he is very well endowed). Yet they still turn out to have a lot of sex (and I mean a lot); every argument (and there a lot of them), every celebration (not all that many), every minor disagreement (the novels are full of them) is resolved by sex (during which she still acts as a submissive 99 % of the time). I've not finished part three yet but the whole fight followed by make-up sex gets very, very repetitive.
The characters have grown on me, so I do want to know how it ends (I guess there'll be an open ending, slightly happy and optimistic) but they're not books I would ever read again.

I find none of this appealing tbh. huh.gif
Hmm, oh well it's not like there aren't enough other books to read.

I'm on "the secret Crusade" by Oliver Bowden right now.
It's based on the first Assassin's Creed game. I like it a lot.
After that I'll probably gonna read Joe Nesbo's "Headhunters", had it since last Christmas already.

Today I started reading Armed and Dangerous, the newest book in the Cut and Run series. So far so good. The boys seem to be getting along well. thumbsup.gif

Finished One Day earlier this week and it's been on my mind ever since. The characters aren't necessarily the most likeable, but for the most part they're understandable. There are some nice touches, outside of the main story, about how people behave in everyday social situations. The final scene left me with a lump in my throat. Maybe it's because I'm in my 30s and have a similar amount of life to look back on as the protagonists, but it left me feeling very reflective. Their actions, the way life intervened at untimely moments at certain points in time, very frustrating but believable.

Just finished the second of Mark Gatiss's Lucifer Box trilogy, "The Devil In Amber". Whilst the unexpected death of a certain significant character was at first disappointing, Gatiss doesn't let the reader down in terms of other "interesting" characters to fill the void. If anything this story blends adventure, comedy and real pathos even more brilliantly than the first and even though the plot itself is complete nonsense you can't help but be drawn into Box's world and the characters that inhabit it.

I haven't read Fifty Shades of Grey but I've read this review and I know full well the book won't be as good as this review. Brilliant.

Hello guys, I'm sure a few of you can help me.

I was talking to a friend earlier about a book I'm about to start writing and we were discussing how I should set it out. The story will follow three different characters with their stories weaving together throughout the book to tell one larger story. So the plan is to write in the third person as an all-knowing narrator but I wanted to make it clear to the reader which character is being followed and at what point in their lives or the story, so we started discussing that and she brought up examples for me to look at existing layouts.

Anyway, one of the books she mentioned was Game of Thrones and how it follows different people and I'm pretty sure she said that is also in the third person but the chapters are very specific to a certain character. The problem is, while I've watched the TV series I haven't read the books and I wondered if those of you who have could give me some insight into how the author structures those books with regards to viewpoint and changing in the focal characters.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Erm, I would take The Help as a good example. The three mains characters, Skeeter, Aibileen and Minnie have their own chapters. So each chapter starts simply with the name of the character. It just reaffirms the audiences WHO the segment of the novel would focus on.
Although they are first person narrations, which is probably where I come a little unstuck. There is every possibility it could work for third person narration though, trust your gut.

Loved The Lucifer Box novels! I was disappointed by the death too.

Started reading A Visit From The Goon Squad, pretty good so far.
