Okay, so I've just finished Lies and I will be starting Plague in the morning.
First of all, Jonny, thank you for recommending them to me, I totally wouldn't have chosen to read the books otherwise because I don't usually like teenage books as it were, but this series of books is really good.
Okay, so I think Gone was the best of the three so far, but all three have been good so I have high hopes for the fourth.
In terms of characters:
I love Sam and think he's a great person to focus on, he's strong yet vulnerable with a lot of different fighting emotions in his head, which I think is a great way to portray him.
Astrid gets on my tits. She's so up herself it's unbelievable. Whether it will be different in the new book I don't know but she clearly thinks she's better than she is, especially considering she's a "normal".
Quinn annoyed me in Gone, but has become a lot better now he's not really a major focal point, although it's gone the other way with Albert. He was quite good in the first one but he too seems to have got a bit too big for his boots.
Edilio is another good character, but I don't feel as though I know him as well as I do some of the others, despite him being a key character and really being a hero since he has no powers and yet he seems to put his life on the line in every book.
Mother Mary was a weird character because sometimes I kind of liked her and at others I didn't. I don't really think I'll miss her. The same goes for Orsay too.
Dekka is a weird character because it's mentioned she's a lesbian when other characters refer to her and yet somehow Brianna doesn't know?! Weird. I wonder if that is leading somewhere.
Some of the more minor character who have actually played quite big roles, like Computer Jack and Duck were/are really cool and I hope we see more of Jack in Plague and that Duck isn't dead.
Brianna was really annoying at first but I've started to like her a bit more.
Can't really say too much about Taylor.
Howard and Orc are quite a cool duo though and I really like their dynamic. I love that Orc is this big monster but he's still just a kid inside who has feelings, especially guilt over what he did in Gone. I think we'll see quite a bit of them in Plague. It will be interesting to see what Orc's body does to him since it seems that illness is going to strike a lot of them but really the only part of Orc that is still human is his brain and half of his face, so will be he about the only one not effected?
The island kids are a strange quantity and are clearly going to be in the fourth book but they just randomly appeared in the third one. I didn't dislike them though. Is anyone else on the other islands?
I really like Lana, I think she's a great character with a lot of depth to her and the relationship with her dog is cool. I hope we see more of her because she'll be important, that is of course if they can find her during the Plague.
The Human Crew piss me off something rotten, they're such a bunch of cunts. I noticed that all that was said about Zil after his big fall was that he had his legs crushed at impossible angles, so he's probably still alive, which probably means we'll get more of him and the crew in this new one.
I quite like Diana, she's got a lot of character but is kind of blinded by her love of Caine, who I have mixed feelings about because in Gone he was an arsehole, in Hunger he seemed to soften and then in Lies he's neither, just sort of in the middle, so it'll be interesting to see what happens now that they're stranded on the island with the very strange Bug.
I never like Drake at all and was quite happy when he died, so him coming back merged with Brittany and being held captive never really did anything for me, but it appears he'll be a big character in the new book so I'll wait to cast judgement.
I hope that Nerezza girl is gone, I know she was a version of the Darkness but I hated her from the beginning.
I actually really loved that little Justin kid and hope he makes a return in Plague with or without the Artful Roger. I know he's only about 5 but he seemed to have a lot of personality.
And finally, Little Pete, is a weird little kid. I really don't know what to make of him. Maybe we'll see more of what he's about in Plague but clearly after he took the FAYZ wall down at the end of Lies he has a crazy amount of power and surely the others who saw what happened will try to get him to undo what he's done in creating the FAYZ, although it looks as though he might be even more reserved than before.
Anyway, that's a really long post so I'll stop now.
I can't wait to start Plague tomorrow.
Just hurry up and read it those who are interested in it (Jonny and Kelly, I think) because I'll want to discuss it but I won't want to spoil it.
