For the record, litrally nobody in this thread have called the films intelligent or masterpieces, we just enjoy them because they're entertaining films, but apparently you will just never be pleased because you seem to have ridiculously high expectations of what to expect in these films.
Wanna bet?
All this Batman talk has convinced me watch the Dark Knight again, it is a masterpiece.-
Link...but then again nolan makes you work in his films...-
LinkShe says "It isn't perfect, and Banes voice is difficult to get to grips with, but apart from that it's a very powerful film and considering its genre, is a frankly affective portrayal of destruction in society" -
Link(technically not a poster here but it highlights the point)
It really is a very intelligent, very powerful thriller that really does belong to the times we live in. -
LinkBUT I have been thinking about this and I think Nolan is making a commentary here...-
Link(a poster trying to rationalise something they don't like about the film as deep/intelligent social commentary)
And that's just from a quick scan of the thread. I'm sure if we were to dig up The Dark Knight thread there'd be an avalanche of similar comments.
I won't be pleased with these films because they're not very good films. They fundamentally fail as the serious credible character drama some pretend they are because none of the characters have any depth or dimension to them, they're all archetypes and concepts rather than real people. They fundamentally fail as the intelligent social commentary some people present them as because they're shallow, confused messes that can't make a coherent or meaningful point. They fundamentally fail as action films because in the first two the direction of the action sequences is terrible and in the third film the action is almost non-existent. And they fundamentally fail as pieces of entertainment because they aren't.
My problem with these films isn't that they aren't intelligent masterpieces (that's my problem with the reviews) but rather that they're not good films.
