QUOTE(Rocky Raccoon @ Sep 22 2010, 17:21) Me and my sister tried watching Silence of the Lambs when I was around 11, but had to stop once Buffalo Bill got that woman into the back of his van and checked her measurements. I'm actually looking forward to Scream 4 ( or Scre4m.... ). It's out in April, isn't it? I'm not sure, but I too am looking forward to it. Hopefully Sharon Osbourne has been keeping an eye on it, because "Let Me Hear You Scream" is BEGGING to be the song over the credits. As for my recommendations: I echo those who say the original Halloween. I think true horror is somewhat out of fashion, but I'd also suggest Nosferatu. It's not scary, yet it can still make your skin crawl. And for modern stuff, Let the Right One In is spectacular.

His face just staring at her, it was so freaky, and it's silent so it's more eerie. Can't wait for Scream 4, the lovely Adam Brody is in it

QUOTE(alansmith:) @ Sep 22 2010, 23:23) I like the old Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Friday the 13th, but as proven throughout film history, their sequels kind of suck.
I actually think the Elm Street sequels are quite good. Dream Warriors, for me, is better than the original. New Nightmare is right up there, a very clever film and so far ahead of it's time in terms of self-awareness and irony. Even Freddy's Dead (the series lowpoint) has the odd moment

Plus,
Nancy dies They were just getting worse and worse, Wes Craven saved the franchise with New Nightmare, in my opinion. QUOTE(Jonnycondom @ Sep 23 2010, 19:44) I was actually talking about A Serbian Movie with one of my friends at work today, and then someone else overheard and then this proceeded to me telling about 6 people in the lab. I actually blurted out "and erm...theres a scene where a guy shags a newborn baby". It was literally like something out of an awkward english comedy show because of the horrible silence afterwards. And now everyone at work thinks I'm a freak. Marvellous. a boy in my film class at college was on about that film the other day for no apparent reason, the rest of us were in shock to what he had just said.
Carnival of Souls
I've got that on DVD! Nice little film, though quite basic. There's another unassuming 'basic' film I saw the other day which was OK (though modern) - Dead End. Not a classic but worth a look.
New Nightmare is right up there, a very clever film and so far ahead of it's time in terms of self-awareness and irony. Even Freddy's Dead (the series lowpoint) has the odd moment

Nooooooooo I hated New Nightmare. And someone told me about that 'Serbian Film' a week or so back....I'm still traumatised by the synopsis. Not something you'd want to buy blind

QUOTE(dill18ox @ Sep 24 2010, 17:59) Asian horror is very popular, particularly japanese horor or j-horor as its known. previously mentioned films like the grudge (or ju on) are quite good for build up and sudden scares, whilst audition leads up to one of the most disturbing scenes i had scene. i would also recomend the ring films, orginal and remake as i have never actually seen the original japanese version to my own shame but looks just as terrifying, especially the third one which was a prequel. Uzumaki is wierd but the ending, where they show the victims again in almost like a crime scene photo, are really disturbing and scary. i got a whole list somwhere, ill see if i can find them.
ok here is a list of what i consider to be good horror movies (ill put in captions if their subtitled): -The strangers. dear god there is nothing more scary than having maniacs hiding somwhere in your house waiting for you, amazing film. watch it alone. at night. i dare you. -Phodia (thai). 4 short horror movies. the first 2 and last one are your typical jump horrors, but the stories are really good. i especially like the first as again our protaganist is alone in her house, really good to watch on your own in the dark. i needed to be in a room with somone afterwards it was that scary. -battle royale (japanese). not exactly a horror movie other than the concept of a goverment kidnapping teenagers and forcing them to kill eachother as part of some bogus army plan. -Rec & quarentine (rec is spanish) i hate and love zombies for the same reason: they scare the shit out of me. like 28 days later these zombies are fast and to make it worse, as the english title sugests, our protagognists are under quarentine in a hotel with the zombies running rampant inside. and its all done from someones handheld camera, which means u see the fast zombies as the protagonist sees them: in your face! - sean of the dead. more a comedy than a horror, but still has some gruesome scenes and your classic stereotypes from zombie movies, eg the hot chick, the hero, the asshole etc. and its in britain, probably the first zombie film made in britain. -IT!!!!!!!!!!! why has nobody said this one yet!! its the epitiny of clown fear! i know the op said he had seen most steven kings films but it still deserves a mention. it wasnt till i found out it was tim curry doing IT in the moviie but i was still scared when i watched it. i mean its a friggin clown that eats children! im just glad he didnt do it on screen. -Tokyo gore police (Japanese). to this day i have not watched it all the way through, but if you want a gore fest horror movie look no further, this film is a ridiculas blood bath that has a guy propelling himself through the air on jets of blood coming out of his mutated severed legs. i could go on and on, might add some more later including ones i havent seen outright but heard good thing about. right now im gona give Tokyo gore police another shot.

I did watch The Strangers alone in the dark and it didn't really do much for me. I LOVE "IT"! And although it was a tv movie/mini-series the full length original Salem's Lot was great.

Probably not because there is also Plague of the Zombies a Hammer Film Production from 1966 and then The Living Dead at the Manchester Morgue from 1974 an Italian/Spanish co-production shot in Manchester, Cheshire and Derbyshire (as well as interiors shot in Italy and Spain). ok well ones that are really well known. i suppose you could count 28 days later as well, but alot of people say their not zombies since their technically not dead, just really pissed off. ive been looking at a website that lists and shows asian horror movie clips, here is a title and a half.. ready Oh! My Zombie Mermaid Killer Pussy why do i get the feeling the last one will be like teeth. thats not a horror movie by the way thats just a bunch of religious crap trying to pass of as horror "i was raped by a boy and now im not a virgin and loved by god anymore, guess i can be as much of a slut as i want and kill people by ripping off their penis with my crodile minge." or am i the only one who saw it that way? seriously she threw away her purity ring after getting raped, has sex with a guy who starts off being nice to her before kinda raping her since shes pissed outa her skull, and then wakes up looking like shes been seducing boys all her life and suddenly knows how to move her hips and shit like a pro despite the fact both her first times were pretty much rape. i know that sounds harsh but seriously, watch it, its ridiculous how this shy young woman who sees sex as such a big sin suddenly straddles a guy who took advantage of her and getting into it within a matter of seconds.
