Anyone else seen Rite with Anthony Hopkins? It's an Exorcist-y film about possession and demons but it's not as good; the first half was pretty dreary, to be honest, but it did liven up after the demon (Baal - one of the seven princes of Hell) switched hosts. If it wasn't for Hopkins the film would have had it's rating halved, but as it is I'd give it 6/10.

Third time lucky?
After the meh "Invitation only" and the really bad "Arachnophobia" (which I switched off 20 minutes in) ima watching "Perfect Getaway" today.
Is that any good?

It's already a winner cause I just saw Timothy Olyphants ass. drool.gif

But Arachnophobia is a classic!

Although I don't think I've ever watched it as an adult.

I love Arachnophobia. biggrin.gif I've seen it as an adult and I definitely appreciated the humour more than I did as a 'tween'.

I finished that this morning but I still think it's just goofy.
Spiders aren't my favourite animals in the world but I'm not particularly squeamish about them either so a few close ups of a Tarantula isn't gonna cut it for me.
There was some nice camera work which would have been very effective if they wouldn't have used cheap rubber spiders most of the time.
It was lame, I'd stick with "8 legged freaks" at least that's goofy on purpose and the effects are great.

Watching Case 39 just now.
Seriously what do you expect if you call your daughter Lilith?
You might as well call your son Damien. rolleyes.gif

I REALLY liked a perfect getaway. A horror not quite but a very decent thriller.

Case 39 was disappointing.

I liked PG too. It did a good job keeping you guessing which couple the crazy one is.
I didn't like the ending that much though cause I think it was a cheap twist.

Case 39 was a bit flat but not awful imo, once it kicked in it was quite decent.
I always enjoy Jodelle Ferland/Lilith though, she is a great child actor.
I wonder though if she gets some kind of complex always being cast as a demon child (Smallville, Supernatural, Silent Hill, Cabin in the Woods, Case 39 and probably more), it would make you wonder wouldn't it? huh.gif

They should cast my cousin.
She is 4, with long perfectly straight white hair who constantly stares into space.

She creeps me out. She creeps everyone out.

Oh! I knew I'd seen her somewhere before, Silent Hill must have been it. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought Case 39 was OK, too. smile.gif

I don't know if anyone is considering Chernobyl Diaries, but if you were, I wouldn't bother. It's such a painful example of "filmaker has seen pics of Pripyat on the internet ---> looks up backstory ---> writes film based on tired cliches due to location rather than actual desire to write a film", that you just know it's going to be proper shit. I'm surprised that it's not The Asylum behind this (but you just know they're going to knock out a third-rate copy by this time next year)

Insidious isn't too bad Astron, the final twenty minutes or so are pretty shit, but there's some genuinely creepy, jump out your seat moments throughout.

Is the Chernobyl Diaries out already? The trailer looks garbage I gotta say. I haven't seen a horror at the cinema in ageeees.

Yeah that would be a shocker Astron!
I'm not sure about Chernobyl Diaries.
Watched Piranha 3DD last night, it was okay, just dumb fun really but very short only 75 minutes long.

Here's review of House by the Cemetary -

I watched Mimic today.
It had one (or two or three) too many plot holes to be great but still decent enough.
Better than Arachnophobia anyway. biggrin.gif

Insidious has its moments in terms of absoulte terror. Those moments are rare in the grand scheme of the film, but slightly memorable. It suffers from a bad plot which reveals itself hideously in the last 45 minutes or so.

It doesn't have the sustainability factor from a scary movie, for me anway.
