I started to watch the first series when it was on BBC2, for some reason just couldn't get into- there was nothing there to hook me in. looked great but didn't seem to have much substance- but I'm happy to be persuaded otherwise

Love it! It's being repeated on Sunday nights on BBC2 / BBC HD (currently about 80% through S1) and S4 has just started.

I like that it's so different to today - the drinking, the chauvinism, the womanising etc all in the workplace is very different to now. The attention to detail seems good. The episode when JFK is assassinated really seems to capture the spirit of shock of the time.

Love it. It was on the RTÉ player and then they removed it for copyright reasons, now they have it on TV very late, as usual.

I'm on teh 3rd series so far.

Mad Men is so smart and so well done; watching season 4 and it keeps getting better.
It's our fave show other than True Blood, we never miss either.

Picked up the first two seasons on blu-ray, on a whim a few months ago from Amazon - only watched a few eps so far (still got BSG to get through - then there's 6 seasons of Lost then those are released on blu-ray) but really, really like it. Will probably pick up the third season soon.

I love it. The finale to Season 3 was brilliant. Also: I worship Joan and Peggy. And Sterling gets some of the best lines on television.

I totally agree! It's a slow series but there are so man layers to it. I HATE Don Draper. Still hoping I can get my free bluray of Season 4 when it's released next year.

I've watched a couple of episodes and its strange because its not instantly likeable but it does have texture and is so vivid really capturing the time period its set in. I think I will give it a chance.

One of my favourite shows ever. So glad the BBC decided to show season 4 quite close to the American transmission so we don't have to wait until next year for it.

I love the wry little absurdities, like in the new episode they don't have conference table in their conference room, so they all have to sit around in a circle like a support group - "It encourages discussion." "About why there's no table".

And Vincent Kartheiser is very handsome too.

Don is a cunt. But that's the point. Sometimes in shows/films, the best and most popular characters are the ones we love to hate because they are better written.
None of them are likeable but they are all fascinating. Don is the least likeable though (minus Joan's fiance).

I'm disappointed to hear you say that because I truly believe Mad Men is one of the best television programmes of recent times. I think part of the problem people tend to have (particularly with getting into it) is that it is relatively understated and slow burning. I'd agree it doesn't immediately grab everyone but you should stick with it because it is a stunning piece of character driven television.
