Watched two films yesterday,

Cell 211 - it was okay. It's basically about a prison riot and what happens to a policeman when he gets caught up in the middle of it pretending to be an inmate. It just didn't do anything new or interesting enough for me, not nearly as violent as it could have been either.

Take Shelter - Really enjoyed this. Very slow moving, but you don't care because the acting is so god damn brilliant.

This weekend I have watched "Project X" and "Made In Dagenham".

Project X I'd give a 6/10. Really unlikeable main characters who do eventually grow on you as the film goes on. The film doesn't have a storyline at all, it's just a house party spiralling out of control. Makes me wanna be 18 again. It was quite depressing to watch really because it made me feel really old. Awesome soundtrack though.

Dagenham - 7/10 - a feel good british film. Nothing more to say really. The 60's setting/fashion was nice?

Campfire Tales

I posted about this in the horror movie thread smile.gif

Darkening Sky

I like Rider Strong, but this is a complete mess. Imdb classifies it as horror or thriller. Without spoiling it, that seems a weird classification while you're watching it, as it seems much more scifi than horror, until the big twist and then the horror classification makes a bit more sense. Anyway, the script is a mess, Rider tends to overact a lot and his fellow cast members seem to drift from scene to scene...

Beyond Sherwood Forest

Hmm, a strange retelling of the Robin Hood stories with a fantasy twist. Unfortunately, it doesn't really work. It's clearly influenced by Dragonheart but not nearly as good. More shirtless Robin Dunne would have helped but there was barely one scene, so no ogling either. Too bad....

It was the Prestige. I am not sure I understood it all but I liked what I could understand!! Not Michael Caine's best performance of recent years tho.

Streetdance 2

Despite the flimsiest storyline that is completely predictable, I enjoyed this because of the dance scenes thumbsup.gif

Sanctum

Not bad, a bit of over the top acting and a relatively predictable storyline, but at least it looks great wink.gif

Alter Egos

An offbeat superhero movie that is kinda depressing to watch...

What do you get when you add vampires to High School Musical or even musical songs to a Twilight movie??? Well, you get:

I Kissed a Vampire
and it's as bad as it sounds.

21 Jump Street

I enjoyed this a whole lot more than I thought I would thumbsup.gif

Red Dawn

Wanted to see the original before the remake comes out. It was... interesting.

The Cabin in the Woods

Loved it thumbsup.gif

Mama is boos

A Dutch 'classic' from the 80s

Magic Mike
Besides all the cute bodies on show, this did not really impress me. The ending is non-existent and did actors like Bomer and Manganiello have any lines????

Magic Mike
Terrible beginning that starts from nowhere, a settled middle, flawed and predictable climax.
Channing Tatum really stood out though, acting wise.
wub.gif Matt Bomer is just SENSATIONAL bodywise in it.

The Debt
Argh, such a perfectly crafted movie. Well thought out and simply told story. A lot of grit and gray with time to emotionally invest in the characters. Jessica Chastain / Helen Mirren are outstanding
Questionable accent for Worthington but forgivable.

Colombiana
Slick, stylish but nothing really new. Bangs and fire and gun shot with a femme fatale Zoe Saldana leading the film. Its like Bourne with tits.

What to Expect When You're Expecting

* Kinda funny romcom *

Avalon High

* A Disney made for tv movie, retelling the story of Arthur and his knights in a modern-day setting with Arthur reincarnated as a girl *

The Joneses

* Interesting idea, nicely done too *

Immortals

* Lots of familiar names from Greek mythology, but very little story based on actual Greek myths. Cavill is lovely but it's a pretty dark movie, literally. *

The Expendables 2

Pretty damn terrible really, awful one liners. Still made me smile though.

The Pill

* I mainly watched this for Noah Bean, who looked cute in a trailer for this that I happened to watch lol_2.gif It's a (here comes that word again) quirky drama/comedy with some clever script choices while some other script elements do not really work. Ultimately saved by the two leads and their chemistry *

Snow White and the Huntsman

* I've never been a Kristen Stewart fan and this confused effort doesn't help. I don't believe there were actually fairies in the 'original' version of this fairytale and the addition of two suitors (creating the love triangle that has become a staple of every movie released these days) only confuses the script further. It does look great most of the times but some scenes clearly go overboard. If the main idea was to make Snow white more of an action hero (aka a modern empowered woman), it almost seems to work but really doesn't due to the fact that all the action scenes apparently take place in the space of one or two days. Too little time to make an action hero out of someone who's been imprisoned for most of her life *

Cargo

* Swiss SciFi and surprisingly good. The setting is clearly influenced by Alien and the twist at the end is not all that surprising but still, I was pleasantly surprised by this *

John Carter

* On Bluray. Still like it, as I said the first time I saw it in May *

Outlander

* A good scifi story set in the time of the vikings. Great performances and special effects. I enjoyed this.

The Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

Interesting exploration of the dynamic of the relationship between man and animal. It really captured the ethic moralities of animal testing which was accompanied by some really impressive special effects, I'm thinking of the Golden gate bridge scene.
It felt most a little flat on action for me and also the human actors seemed almost just there to be passed by the brilliance of Serkis as Caesar.

Good film, though. Best Planet of the Apes where has ever been.

A Warrior's Heart

* A combination of a coming-of- age and a sports movie featuring lacrosse (like Teen Wolf). Soppy and predictable but some nice shirtless shots by Kellan Lutz *

Peace, Love and Misunderstanding

* Why cast Chace Crawford and not have him do a shirtless scene?? wink.gif Anyway, this was a sweet romcom but the scene-stealer was Jane Fonda. She was great and extremely believable as a hippie (even though according to an interview I read, she wasn't actually one). *

Friends with Kids

* Ok comedy starring cute Adam Scott *

The Dinosaur Project

* Combining the found footage idea from, most notably, The Blair Witch Project, with The Lost World. Quite similar to Sanctum, which I watched a while ago because of the father-son relationship. Notwithstanding the impossible plot lines and not really good acting, I felt this was acceptable for a rainy day afternoon *

August

* I don't know what to say about this. The story seemed to start somewhere in the middle, things happened, the end. All it did was confirm some gay stereotypes *
